Media Poirier and Conor last five opponents

That picture says it all.

connors competition has been ten times better. While Dustin was besting FWs, barely getting by hookers or getting owned by Khabib, Connor was owning the winningest fighter in ufc history, taking rounds from Khabib and beating a man three times his size. With a ballooned foot and all

"DuStIn WaS BeStInG fWs". Yet Conor's best wins bar Eddie are all over FWs.

Between the MJ loss and the Khabib loss, every win Dustin obtained on that streak was over a champion or former champion. Meanwhilst Conor fought......oh yeah, Cowboy and a loss to Khabib.

Didn't Dusting get KO while defending in block???

Dustin now is just so many levels better than he was then. Either guy can win this fight but Dustin has gone through somewhat of a gauntlet to be in this position to avenge that loss and get back in a title fight again.

Agree. I think he should fight like he fought Max, but from the guy i replied to i had feeling he thinks Conor KOed Dustin with left counter.

Is RDA back to being a lightweight?

Not all wins, but just open up his sherdog page and look at the fucking list. Never an easy fight in his last like, 18
RDA has always fought great guys for sure. Been in there with best of this generation

It’s wouldn’t matter if kabob was still in the division. Dustin still has a deeper resume
Disagree. For lightweight? Khabib has the best resume right now. Half the current top 5, 3 top 15 p4p, 8 top 10 throughout his career, 4 of which held belts in their career.

Dustin is the only one that comes close but his top wins fall short by just a little imo. Dustin may very well pass him up in his next few fights tho

I think I would have Dustin just outside the top 10 LWs of all time(above Conor) but with one more win he would be in the 8-10 range and I think he ends his career somewhere in the top 7 all time at LW(maybe top 5 depending on how many more wins he gets before he retires).

Who have you got ahead of him apart from Khabib, BJ and Tony?

Frankie and Bendo? They got the title defences but I'd pick current Poirier over Champ versions of those two.

I don't know how you can be 3-2 in your last 5 and be around the title picture but Dana will give Conor as much freebies as he possibly can.

One loss was immedietely avenged and then he beat the Champ for the title and became the title holder.

The second loss was a title shot against Khabib who the other contenders, Poirier and Gaethje have also lost to....

Does this really need explaining?

One loss was immediately avenged. Yeah a majority decision lol. Beat Eddie Alvarez, okay, I'll give that one to you, and then two fucking years without a single defense and holds up two divisions! So to answer your question, yes, it did need explaining because it's still mind numbingly confusing how you get a title shot after beating a fighter LAST year who has seen better days who was already on a consecutive losing streak. You don't happen to find anything wrong with this scenario then you have my envy.

What the fuck is this?

Khabib is really good!

Poirier is really good!

Mcgregor is really good!

They are not the lw goat!

khabibs record is super light. He’s only beaten 4-5 guys in his career that you could say were at the top of the heap.
Conor who hasn’t really been a fighter since the may weather fight, Justin, dustin and rda. He beat Edson who is dangerous but never even challenged for a belt. Al who was basically a retired real estate agent at the time and pat healy.

then take Dustin into account

wins over hooker which is a comparable win to khabib/barboza beat Alvarez, Justin, pettis and Holloway x2 I am also favouring him to beat Conor in the upcoming fight

it’s not like one is hands down a better resume but if you take into context the situation of when the fights all took place I like Dustins resume more

Khabib, Penn, Alvarez, Henderson, Edgar, RDA, Gomi, Ferguson, Pettis and Aoki. With one more win he can move up to the 7-10 range IMO but I currently have him as 11th all time at LW. Everyone ranked ahead of him has more top 10 wins and/or was ranked 1st in the world.

Damn Poirier resume is fucking strong. A win over Conor which i doubt but that will put him up there with one of the best LW ever.

Wow, hadn't realized that Poirier had fought such better competition than Conrat over the last few years.

So Conrat is 1-1 against LW's ultimate gatekeeper turned money fight cherry picker, both men have a win over Alvarez, both men have a loss against Khabib, and Conrat has another win against a washed up cowboy that chugged Budweisers in front of the audience at the pre-fight Q&As.
Meanwhile Dustin has wins over Hooker, Gaethje and Holloway. They were wars, though, and not absolute destructions. Interesting.

I still think this is a stylistic nightmare for Dustin, but looking at each man's last 5 fights, let's just say that Conrat's resume from the last couple years looks fucking pale in comparison to Poirier's.

Loads of people get screwy title shots. McGregor is at least a former champ coming off a win.

These examples were all worse or comparable:

  • Thug Rose - 4-3 in her last 7, one fight win streak got a shot
  • Bobby Knuckles - given the title
  • Raging Al - ranked #11 one win in the previous three years which was over diego, gets a title fight with Khabib - imo this shouldn't have been for the vacant belt but they they wanted to put a belt on Khabib.
  • Faber - loses to Frankie Edgar then beats Frankie Saenz and is handed a title shot (Faber was gifted loads of other title shots too)
  • Aldo - loses to Volkanovski, loses his bantamweight debut and then follows that with a title shot coming off two losses.
  • Romero - lost two title fights as part of a three fight losing streak
This is how UFC works, who would you put in place of Connor that would available to fight on that date?

Everyone you listed mostly took the TS either on last minute deals or some other sort of fuckery, so to speak. Not one of those fighters ever held up a division, never mind two.

That's fair enough, good list.

I always forget about Gomi and Aoki but I agree they're definitely in the conversation.

Only both Dustin vs Alvarez 1 was NC while Dustin was going down, and in second Alvarez was on top of Dustin before ref stood them up for 12to6 elbow. If you want to compare by Alvarez, Dustin had more luck then anything else in both fights. Some other ref would let it slide. On other hand Conor murked Alvarez. Hard to compare how will it go.

If he doesn't let the mental aspect of McGregor get to him, I think we're in for a great fight tbh. It's a test to see where both fighters are in their career.
The first fight Dustin was angry, now he’s hungry for a shittle tot

Habib is the LW GOAT easily.
Show me a former LW champion that was as dominant as him and has the names equivalent to Conor, Dustin and Gaethje on their resume which were all finishes. Tied the LW title defences at 3 with Bendo, Penn and Edgar. Never dropped, cut and arguably lost only two rounds in his MMA career.
And he retired undefeated.
You cant.
Habib is not the GOAT overall cause he doesn't have a deep enough resume like Silva, Jones and GSP but him being a LW Goat is already established and supported by everyone following this sport
