Points given for takedown defence will fix this sport

I don't think you need to give points for TD defense, but wall n stalling or blanketing with next to zero strikes or sub attempts should weighted very lightly in the scoring. It shouldn't matter how much "control time" you have if you did nothing with it, if the other guy landed the more significant shots on you, you should lose the round. Control time is such an irrelevant stat to keep track of in the first place, all that matters are strikes and sub attempts.
This!
It should be more like blanketing and stalling with no advancing in position, no ground and pound, or just defending subs, should be a point deducted.

MMA can either be the most exciting sport, or the most boring sport of all time. There are times where i rather watch baseball. Those moments are wall n stall situations. This is by far the most boring moment in MMA. Its not even close.

How do we fix it? Easy. Successful TDD should count as a point. If you shoot in on my crotch and i stuff your little peahead under my ball sack, you just embarrassed yourself and should lose points. This alone will stop these wrestling vermins from trying that again. Defence should be awarded. I never buy ufc ppv because of how inconsistent this sport is. I much rather watch a 12 round jab fest in boxing than wall n stall. And im a gsp fan. I have no problem with grappling. But wall n stall is the death of this sport. Aldo won that fight.

Much better is to update the cureent rules which are artificially favoring wrestlers

Allow 12 to 6 elbows
Allow kneeing downed opponent
Allow kicks to downed crotch sniffers

And also Aldo outlanded Merab, should've been a 29-28 Aldo win.
Yeah damage was inflicted by Aldo. With the new criteria he should've won. This just shows not all athletic commissions is aware of the main criteria in judging. It will take some time for all states and athletic commissions to be on the same page. Most are still using the old metrics they have been using to ref and judge fights. The fights in Vegas seems to focus on the new criteria and the refs and judges are well aware of it.

Has to be addressed. But it can't be JUST stuffing the TD. You don't get points for slipping punches.
This. I hate wall n' stall, but implementing this rule could really damage the sport. Fighters that rely on offensive wrestling might decide that it's not worth pursuing out of risk of losing points, so they'll be at a competitive disadvantage against strikers. Next thing you know, MMA just turns into sloppy kickboxing with 4oz gloves.

you can't allow a fight to be won just by nullifying the opponent. at best it should just be considered a wash, the TD attempt and defense cancelling out. perhaps you take away the aggression / octagon control element in that particular case and it's just a tie round.

I have to be honest. It bugs me a lot. We were robbed of a great fight between Aldo and Meerab. But people have rightly made the point, Aldo could have done a lot more. If Aldo had, would we have seen a more competitive fight, or would he have made himself more vulnerable and been taken down. In the classic wall and stall scenario. Actually both athletes are stalling. One obviously initiates it, but both played their part on Saturday night.

As with stand ups (which are also as controversial), separating the fighters might be the only way. Dunno

Just say you want kickboxing and be honest with yourself.

Someone already made this idiotic thread

Totally vs, at least the person attempting takedown had initiative. What else? Give points for blocked strikes? Takedown defendse favoured by the judges should be when for example: fighter defending lands something significant when his opponents shoot.

Casual detected, go watch boxing

I feel like you should get points only if you stop all takedowns for that round. Like for example, someone like Khabib might chain 7 takedowns together to get 1, the guy defending shouldn't get 6 points and Khabib 1, but if they shrug off all of them for a round get 1 point. Maybe vise versa, getting someone down no matter how many times only gives 1 point for that round.

Lol u might have a point till the end. Aldo clearly lost

Damage should count more and Aldo landed the more damaging strikes.

I do like the modern damaged focused criteria, there are some judges and fans who don't seem to understand it's already supposed to be about damage (worded as "effective" striking and grappling).

I had Vera up on points over Cruz before the KO, but some on here thought that Dom was winning every round just by being busy even though he got dropped three times.

No, PRIDE's yellow/red card system and scoring system + better judges and refs and forced instant replay would fix it. Add better gloves while we're at it. Also ring > cage (including a 6-8 sided ring).

The sport is fine. There are varied rulesets and scoring.

The Ultimate Circus is the issue.
