Poatan is not big enough for 205.

Potan is tall and lean but he does not have a massive frame and he is not thick. He has skinny legs.

He will be out muscled by guys at 205.

??? Skinny legs is a very big advantage. If I want to weigh a lot for my weight class (like 225-230 for weighing in at 205) I want explosive power and speed from my lower body, not tons of tissue to slow me down and have huge oxygen demand. Legs become an albatross when you aren't sprinting or have to fight for 25 minutes.

It's true to some extent, here's the thing, he's huge for 185 but he's not going to proportionately gain 20lbs of lean muscle and cut the same amount of water to make 205, he's going to gain a small amount of real weight and just cut less water to make 205, he won't be much bigger than he was in the cage at MW. He won't tower over guys like he did at 185.

The performance gain might come from him not having to dehydrate as much, maybe he can eat a clean shot without getting rocked like in the last two fights. Then again guys will hit harder at 205 so that might negate having a better chin. Bottom line, UFC pushed him to make this move so that Adesanya doesn't have to fight him again, that's all there is to it, it wasn't even his choice or idea, they probably gave him a nice juicy contract with promise of a quick title shot if he went up to 205.

Of course he's big enough for 205. Here he is with an average Sherdogger @BoxerMaurits , and they are about the same size. If anything, Poatan is about 6'6'' and 255 pounds of muscle, per the usual Sherdogger standard
