"Foi um lutão. Acho que quem pagou para assistir não se arrependeu. Ele merece a revanche. Para mim, não tem problema não. Isso não está no meu controle, se ele vai lutar ou se não vai. Para mim, é indiferente. É só vir", declarou o campeão do UFC

"It was agreat fight. I think that anyone who paid to watch got their money's worth. He des deserve (the rematch). For me, there's no problem. This is not under my control if he will fight or won't.
To me, it makes no difference. He just has to come." declared the new UFC champion.

hehehehe.
I think this is inevitable.
Not because I think Israel deserves the immediate rematch, he does not.
But it is fairly obvious that if the UFC makes him fight anyone else, Alex will lose his belt to the next contender; and that will mean this "grudge match" will probably not happen again (or will happen like Masvidal & Colby, where both guys were quite diminished, so the fight had more desperation than spark)...

Thoughts?

I'm ok with it. The likes of Whittaker, Vettori and Khamzat most likely beat him via grappling. Let him have at least one title defense.

On another note, Izzy might literally be on suicide watch if he goes 0-4 against the same guy.

Why does he not deserve an immediate rematch? He was maybe the longest standing current champ in terms of title defenses. AND despite this fight being a finish, it was one Izzy was winning going in to the 5th round. He was up 3-1 on all three scorecards, and that was IMO the proper score to the fight.

If you believe a champ should never get a rematch unless the fight is controversial, then I guess I can see that - although I disagree w/ that take. I think some champs definitely should get immediate rematches.

in this case, Usman & Adesanya both make sense to me. Whereas Weili's immediate rematch vs Rose did not make sense (she had 1 defense only and lost a KO early in the fight - therefore was missing both criteria that Usman & Izzy had... long reigns plus losses in fights that were much closer)

If Izzy has a smart team around him they will suggest he takes some time off. What's really going to change if he jumps right back in there and they do it again? Sure he might win this time, but it's also likely nothing changes and he gets stopped again.

Let him take some time off, maybe fight someone else to get some some swagger back, and then go for it. If Poatan loses the belt between now and then it doesn't really matter. Izzy has won and defended that belt so many times that it's more about just beating this guy rather than the title.

Why wouldn't he want it? He knows he can beat him, and it's likely a better money maker than any other MW fight for him.
For sure. Of all the top middleweight contenders, Pereira would choose Adesanya if it was his choice. He knows what to expect, and he's comfortable fighting that fight.

Against Vettori or Whittaker, he'd definitely get taken down.

Duh. He isn't going to fight a grappler until he absolutely has to.

He will take infinite rematches with Izzy if it means he won't have to fight a guy who knows some basic wrestling.

He looked absolutely lost on the ground against Izzy last night, and Izzy's ground game is way below everybody else's at 185.

An immediate rematch sounds completely fair

Problem is, I dunno if Izzy's mind can handle another devastating loss like that. He's not the exact definition of mentally stable to begin with.

He's an eccentric asf dude whose magic can't work well if he's mentally strained.

Max Holloway lost to Volk twice and the sharpest eyes here saw that he was actually starting to decline defensively from all of the hits that he's been taking.

As for Izzy, his leg kicks aren't going to be as effective coming into the rematch anymore so his wrestling would have been his best bet...because that 3rd round where Adesanya grapplefucked Pereira against the cage and making the latter work was masterclass.

it depends, against a guy like vettori he will train heavy defensive wrestling I think but it wasn't necessary with adesanya

Vettori would be the best grappler he could face because his takedowns aren't all that great. Judging by Alex's grappling last night though all these guys would need is one takedown. I don't see Poatan surviving a full round on the ground against anybody competent.

Most beatable male champ since Dave Menne.

im for it alex needs to bring the oxygen tank to the ufc too we've never seen one before

It was a definitive finish in a fight with no controversy.

The only thing you do by awarding instant, unearned title shots is take money out of other fighters pockets.

Whittaker didn't get an instant rematch, Izzy should not either.
