Pliny Petes Luchastravaganza Thread

I watched the entire first season in the past 3 days. Lucha Underground is the best promotion in business.

Cuerno gets the Gifft of the Gods!

Pretty good first episode
Wouldve liked to seen a new character introduced but at the same time thats one of the things that make Lucha so dope
One hour means it takes a few weeks to get to the next chapter of everyones storyline which keeps everything feeling fresh and exciting
Cant wait for next week

And once again that opening skit with Vampiro was so fuckin awesome!

Good episode. Didn't expect the title change in the first match. Also Cuernos finisher was brutal. Like something Zangief would do.
Muertes finisher looks weak in comparison. I was expecting him to debut a new move, maybe a power bomb variant or a chokeslam...

Yea normally I wouldnt want a title change right outta the gate cause I hate when they hotshot the belts but I figure since its a brand new season the writers are coming in fresh and prolly needed to move some things around to start the storylines
Plus Im a Lucha mark so Im willing to see how things play out before I start complaining

Lucha Underground drew a combined audience of 194,000 viewers for the season premiere.

The live airing at 8:00 p.m. EST drew 109,000 viewers, which ranks as one of LU’s most-watched hours on El Rey.

The replay at 9:00 p.m. then drew 85,000 viewers. Comparably, the replay easily topped the first-run Season 1 average.

Lucha’s median age viewer was 50.1 years-old. Despite falling outside of the desired 18-49 window, the show drew a broad audience for wrestling programming.

The split was 67 percent males 18-49 and 33 percent females 18-49. This was right at the Season 1 average.

Caldwell’s Analysis: The performance looks great, especially in comparison to how small the Season 1 premiere audience was for an unfamiliar show on an unfamiliar network. Now, Lucha has some buzz and it will be interesting to see if Season 2 builds on this premiere audience.

Just got picked up for a 3rd season

El Rey Network, Emmy Award®-winning producer Mark Burnett and MGM today announced that the popular Lucha Libre wrestling series "Lucha Underground" will return for a third season. The chant starting, blood pumping, action-packed, character-driven series will begin production on the third season immediately in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles and will premiere on El Rey Network in early 2017. Season Two debuted on El Rey Network on January 27th and airs on Wednesdays at 8:00pm ET/PT.

"'Lucha Underground' has caught fire by developing a loyal and passionate fan base," said El Rey Network Chairman and Founder Robert Rodriguez. "I am proud that its home is El Rey Network, and we're excited to announce a season three return for even more no-holds-barred action."

"I am so excited that the fans will be able to continue to enjoy the incredible action and stories," said Executive Producer Mark Burnett.

Ancient tradition, extraordinary athleticism, and a flare for theatrics combine in El Rey Network's wrestling series, "Lucha Underground." The riveting original introduces American audiences to the high-flying aerial maneuvers, slingshot moves, dramatic masks, intricate, rapid-fire combinations and distinctive wrestling techniques of lucha libre, one of Mexico's most popular sports. Fans have a ringside seat as masked villains and heroes face off to battle for wrestling supremacy. The weekly series provides enthusiastic viewers with an incredibly visceral and explosive experience with a focus on the artistry, originality, intense action and over-the-top characters that have come to define this phenomenal fan-favorite. A celebration of lucha libre's long-standing Mesoamerican heritage and culture dating back to 1863, this is programming that must be seen to be believed.

finally got around to watching the season premiere. it did not disappoint. the outside the ring stuff is head shoulders above anyone else. might have to try and see if can catch a taping this year.

edit: well I guess I should pay closer attention as they've already wrapped season 2 tapings

194k viewers is horrible, how many homes are they in?
