Playing poker at a casino.

Tournaments only for me. Brilliant fun and a great way to have a laugh with randoms.

I'm not baller enough to play the cash tables.

Key imo with live poker is confidence. So much bluffing goes on its frightening.

Tournaments are completely different from cash games.

Key number 1 would be recognizing that.

I have very limited experience of playing in Vegas.

I got reamed in the no limit cash games. I sat at a low steaks table but the reality was that you saw no cheap flops. I think I'd want at least $500 to burn before I tried that again.

Tournaments are better value for money, but find out how long the tourney is scheduled to run. Cheaper buy ins tend to be shorter format which means the blinds climb quickly. I played one where I tripled my stack by the first break and thought I was doing ok. Before I knew it, the blinds were so big I was gonna be blinded out. More expensive tournaments may have a longer / slower format.

I preferred the atmosphere at the tournament tables as well.
I like tournaments but the low mo ery tournaments are like 3 maybe 5 hours to win like a few hundred.

I like buying in for 500 on 5 10 plo. People play crazy n every other hand seems up be over a 200 dollar pot. I sit back an play a little tight n usually do alright. Plo is just a exciting game. With nl poker 1 2 or 2 5 its usually a grind.

You play 5-10 PLO no limit or limit??

Have any of you played poker at a casino?I’ve always liked watching high stakes poker and recently started playing online but not for real money. Other then that I had only played poker a few times with friends but that was years ago and only for nickels and dimes. I’m going to Vegas in a couple months and the friend I’m going with plays a lot of poker. This Friday I went to a local casino and really played poker for the first time. It’s such a different experience playing with real money. It was an 8/16 table, I wanted to play at a smaller bet table bring my first time but we could both get on this one so I went for it. 2 hours later I’m out 300 bucks but it was fun. I would do it again but at a lower bet table until I get better.
I’ve played a good amount of craps, roulette, and blackjack done well done days, not do well others. But it’s a different experience playing against other people for money as opposed to “together “ with craps and blackjack.
Do any of you play a lot of poker? If so have you done well at casinos? Have any cool stories?
My best story isn’t playing poker but last time I was in Vegas I was playing roulette at NY NY. After an hour of getting ahead, coming back down I was back to $97 from starting with $100. I got a $100 dollar chip and put it on 23. It was the only bet on the table and it hit. So I took my buddy to spearmint rhinos and spent 600 on him and I don’t even know on me. But it was a great night.
Motherfucker, use paragraphs. The return button works, even at casinos.

Getting vertigo reading these tight ass run-on sentences. LOL

Don’t have any personal experience, but I often have to go to a casino for work. But one thing I know is it’s usually the same people around those tables. They are there all the time, they know each other, and they certainly love new people they can take money off.

if you’re just playing for fun then no worries but the rake at the 1-2 tables will likely take you to 0. So you’re better off playing 2-5. Also, less scumbag players at 2-5 than 1-2. As far as table games, I believe War has the lowest house percentage.

Low limit holdem can eat shit and live.

6-Max Online
.10cent/.20cent is = $1-$2 no limit live

Online poker is far different than live full ring games. And 6 max online is completely different

Poker has changed Drastically in the past 15 years. The game isn’t even close to being the same.

Live cash I like 2/5 no limit or 5/10 no limit but that’s a HUGE game and requires a serious investment of time and bankroll management.
tbh Id say most of the 1-2 NL players couldn’t even beat 1 cent/2 cent online. The big difference in live 1-2 NL is people open 5-7x the big blind or most of the table is limping. The rake as well is a pain.

1-2 cents seems a bit low. .10-.20 cent is more like 1-2 no limit.

And to be honest I beat 2-5 5-10 live much more than I win low limit online 6max.

I’ve played in poker rooms in AC before. Be careful, card sharks are real

i’m not surprised on that. online people have HUDs and the players make far less mistakes and ofc a lot more pros. Live play you will run into a lot more rec players and people who play way too many hands and are prone to tilting.

Poker boom in early 2000s was glorious. Poker sucks now...everybody is decent...can't play anywhere near enough hands per hour at live table...and there's always 1 or 2 loudmouth motherfkers at each table that won't shut up...just a running commentary.

I got back to back pocket aces once. Folded them after the flop with a straight flush draw and a big raise to the guy on my left. He had jacks. Fuck me.

that but the noobs generally sit there too so you feast on them when they do come around.

I prefer 2-5 of course.

@Superbad, ya I played a lot of Casino poker and Underground live games during the first explosion wave of poker.

I pretty much played full time for two years (at least 3 twelve hours sessions a week) . I've told lots of those stories here on this forum before on the many other poker threads. I will try to see if I can find those threads (cross finger on search engine) and re paste a few.

Yup.

Early 2000's was GOAT poker. A live table with 10 players was 6 complete fish just giving away their money. 2 players who understood the game and were ok but did not play enough to be good. And 2 players that were good and combing the sheep.

Now a table is comprised of 6 that are good and really know the game, 2 that are ok, and maybe 2 who are fish. Almost all the big pots now are fought over by the good players whereas in the past you mostly avoided pots with the good players and chased the fish.
