I had KK yesterday, one of my only decent starting hands of the session, and ended up having to fold on the river because someone hit his wheel straight. He was calling my fairly large bets with A-4 and the board was 2-5-Q-10..........3.
thankfully he showed me the hand, would have bothered me but turned out to be a good fold. I definitely should have bet bigger after the turn, made a mistake there letting him chase.
played for 3 hours+ and made $19 profit lol
Mind if I do a little hand analysis? You should rarely to never have hands like this playing out that way. And when you do, it means you’re playing with fish, and that’s a very good thing.
First off, what was your position and what was the A4 villains position? If he’s out of position and raising, you should be 3-betting (re-raising) him. Minimum 3x his raise, but the looser of a player he is, the higher your raise should be. If he’s in position on you, then you need to be raising enough where it’s neg EV for him to call (3x+). When you have a premium hand like KK, you shouldn’t be allowing anyone to see cheap flops, ever. The average shit poker player is going to play a lot of Ax hands, especially if you make it cheap for them to limp their way in. And this is bad, since any A high flop puts you way behind. It’s OK, and good if guys are going to see flops with Ax hands, but they have to know they have to PAY to see that flop.
Where you fucked up is you allowed this guy to see a flop with you with an Ace rag hand. Then he hits a gut shot draw on the flop. You’re super far ahead of him on the flop. Even further ahead on the turn. Somehow you let him get to the river with that gut shot, and should never have happened.
When the flop hit, you should have bet big. If he’s a loose calling station, 3/4 to a full
Pot bet. If he’s tighter, 1/2 to 2/3 pot. If he’s still there on the turn, hit him again. 3/4 pot bet. If you had done that, he never would have hit a 4 outer on the river against you. By the turn, the odds of him drawing that card are around 8%. If he’s that bad of a player that he would have called all those bets down with a gut shot, that’s even better. Means then he’s a whale of a calling station and you can make a lot of money off of in the next couple hours.
