Because he had credentials in skills that everyone thought would adapt well into MMA, the problem is he isn’t even using the skillset that he’s actually very talented in & was hyped beating cans, like many fighters outside the UFC, it’s some type of weird obsession where people put a lot of faith in them to spite Dana & UFC claiming the best fighters are there:

it’s delusions and probably a lot of optimism, don’t get me wrong, Pico clearly has talent and skills when you watch, he just lacks basic fundamentals in IQ, like keeping your hands up, and not getting overzealous. But like others has mentioned, him beating cans and everyone hyping him up i think built a confidence in him that he can’t be stopped even though he already has been, reminds me of Luke Rockhold except Rockhold at his best was smart enough to take fights where he excelled in.
