Pico's career has been incredibly unlucky

More like incredibly overrated.

He never showed any supernatural abilities of a “can’t miss prospect”… his claim to fame was skipping college to try out for the Olympics, falling short, and he took some Boxercise classes at his local fitness center lol.

People have been making excuses for him his whole career, they’re so invested that they just continue to double down every time he gets washed.

I told everyone this was a lackluster signing because he’s never beat a top 50 guy and been posterized by complete randoms.

Enough of the Pico nonsense.

<DisgustingHHH>

- mma prodigy at a young age, was supposed to become one of the greats
- rushed into MMA too early because of his accolades
- got finished and knocked out by grown men
- looked very good in a lot of fights
- looked very good tonight until he caught a spinning elbow and more brain damage

He's only 28 and he's already taken a lot of damage. He has all the talent in the world but I think he's going to be a victim of circumstance.

Rory Mcdonald had a more impressive start to his career, and went out way harder

He's pretty much Chandler
If Pico had fought Chandler's list of opponents I'm not sure he'd have survived it. I mean that literally. The poor guy's brain would be absolutely mush. Michael Chandler's chin isn't that bad his style just leaves him open to getting CRACKED. Aaron Pico is what happens when you fight like that with a legitimately bad chin.

Going forward? He nearly got KTFO by an uppercut before getting choked out in 24 seconds in his very first MMA fight by a guy with only 1 TKO win in his career. His chin being a problem was evident right out of the gate.
He was 20 in that fight. That's too young to start in an org like Bellator against grown ass men.

To be fair, that was a pretty clean spinning elbow he got clipped with

That's why they went out and signed a guy who wasn't a Bellator fighter for him to fight. They thought they'd found a passable can off the regional circuit and he still mopped the floor with Pico.

He's looked good against guys that aren't really that great themselves and that's it. Dude took 2 rounds to finish Adlii Edwards, who sucked.

He didn't look good tonight. He was wading in with dumb punches and then eventually waded right into a KO.

Send him back to Bellator with Patchy, Pitbull, and MVP.
MVP reading this:

I forgot that he trains with Greg Jackson. That would be my first thought that Pico should change. It's not the 2010's anymore.

Sure it was. His style leaves him open to getting cracked. He got wobbled by punches twice before that by a guy who only has one stoppage from punches in 9 UFC fights. The guy's chin is just really bad. Pretty much every time he takes a clean shot to the head he gets visibly hurt. Just really tough to make it in pro fighting if your chin is that weak.

Maybe, but no one would’ve predicted Murphy to pull something like that out of his ass. Great finish which shouldn’t be belittled by picos chin issues

In every Embedded he was obsessed with being the best dressed, comparing himself to GSP and Topuria. GSP didn't start dressing like that until he became the champ IIRC. I had a strong feeling this was going to happen.

I don't even think it's that his chin is particularly bad.

The dude just has shit defense. Commentary talk him up like he's some absolute beast boxer, but he just wades in wide open. He's done it in every other fight I saw him in as well.

Maybe that works against lower level fighters and it might work against low level boxers too, but in small gloves with knees, elbows, kicks, etc. added in, it's no wonder he got obliterated once he finally fought a decent guy.

Pico has a lot of faults but the sad thing to me is that this is the downside of aiming to be great.

We only see the success stories, i.e., the "survivorship bias", but the truth is that most kids who forgo school and a pedestrian life to pursue greatness will end up falling way short. I think Pico has actually succeeded way more than most though and even if he ends up coaching, he will have a good life and a memorable career to look back on.

Every time he gets touched to the head he gets visibly hurt. His chin is definitely bad.

Fucked himself when he said he'd get Volk if he knocked out Murphy. He's capable of flattening people, but this ain't Bellator. Should've spammed the wrestling. Would've been a much different fight.

He didn't look good tonight, he was over-pressuring, throwing super wide hooks with his hands down, and not moving his head after throwing. He's not UFC caliber. I do agree though that his career was completely rushed.
