Which of these is better to watch if you haven't watched Star Trek for a while. Heard Picard is a little woke but unlike other Star Trek shows is pretty graphic. Discovery is like a modernized continuation of the franchise. If you have watched both or some of both which would be the better one to binge?

Unfortunately they are both a little woke. But I still enjoyed them because I had low expectations.

Surprised I missed this thread the first time around. As a hardcore Star Trek fan from the TOS through Voyager eras I absolutely hate both Discovery and Picard. Everything that’s followed Enterprise has been complete and utter dogshit.

Of all the franchises I loved back in the day that have gone to shit, from Terminator to Alien to Predator to Star Wars the one that hurts the most has to be Star Trek. Star Trek is supposed to be smart TV, not dumb. That’s all it is anymore is the Big Dumb.

Yeah, I'll add another note to "I'm a long-time Star Trek fan and don't like either" category. Old Star-Trek is about exploration, a positive view of the future based on Enlightenment values, and generally a positive age of discovery narrative. All of the new shows are post-colonial apologies for what the older shows tried to do. Unless you were just into the aesthetic and the races - which have also both changed - I don't think these shows were actually written to appeal to old Star Trek fans.

From what I have heard, both are gutter trash and should be considered even worse than wastes of time.

The best trek right now by far is Strange New World. Pains me to say that Picard is not nearly as good as TNG which is my all time favourite.
