I wrote a paper years ago on why the universe is self contained and that there will be a paradigm shift in thinking from the big freeze/eternal expansion to cyclic universe.

Well now they arent so cocky anymore that the universe will expand forever and I can actually put this forward without being banned from the physics forum... :)

What this means for the universe (AI summary)

"End to eternal expansion: This new evidence challenges the "Big Freeze" theory, which predicted the universe would expand forever.

Cyclical universe: A Big Crunch could potentially lead to a cyclical model where the universe expands, collapses, and then undergoes a new Big Bang, although more research is needed to confirm this possibility.

Thank you come again!

A theory that takes another 20 billion years to come to fruition?

So.......... it's okay to take money out of my retirement account
and start the YOLO process?

Yes, and it could contract enough to create another big bang theoretically in an infinite loop.

IIt's hardly a new theory now, is it.
No, but it was rejected

the Big Crunch is a hypothetical scenario for the ultimate fate of the universe, in which the expansion of the universe eventually reverses and the universe recollapses, ultimately causing the cosmic scale factor to reach absolute zero, an event potentially followed by a reformation of the universe starting with another Big Bang. The vast majority of current evidence, however, indicates that this hypothesis is not correct

It says potentially but QM states that the simplest of conditions must bring about a new universe. the simplest conditions are "unstable".

Big Bang and Big Crunch would be great rap names.

No, but it was rejected

Nothing really changed, just that some guys proposed some new calculations they believe supports this hypothesis, and gives a specific timeline. But it’s not like there’s some new consensus like you seem to be suggesting.

Planck evidence for a closed Universe and a possible crisis for cosmology

"If the universe is "closed," it means it has a positive curvature, is finite but has no edge, and its fate is to eventually collapse in on itself in a "Big Crunch".
