What a great horror movie on a small budget. A cult classic today. Four (4) sequels, but the 1st still the best. 'Phantasm' was a locally financed independent film; the cast and crew were mostly amateurs and aspiring professionals. Though initial reviews were mixed in regard to the dreamlike, surreal narrative and imagery, later reception was more positive, and the film became a cult classic. Budget: $300,000. Box office: $22 million. What made this movie so great:
. The 'Tall Man.'
. The flying death spheres.
. The music.
. The car, a 1971 Plymouth 'Barracuda.'
. The blonde girl.

I remember watching this film as a kid and my mother was in the room with the remote and immediately fast forwarded the titty shot in the cemetery lol.

The ending of the movie really messed with my head, as in the scene when he looks into the mirror.

Truth be told as a 34 year old, I don't think I'd enjoy this film like I did as a kid but I do have fond memories as it was quite an unsettling story

Priceless!
The Lady in Lavender (Kathy Lester) is The Tall Man's feminine alter ego, used by him to seduce particular victims with a minimum of effort.

The fortune-teller's granddaughter, Terrie Kalbus, was also pretty hot.

Love the series. Just something special about the surreal and dreamlike horror.

Yeah, awesome movie, too bad Coscarelli was never able to fully exploit his talent for horror afterwards, although I absolutely love Beastmaster.
I don't know you guys, but since I watched this one as a kid I was always fascinated with the idea of the portal and whenever I'm in the airport or somewhere where they have these poles I always fight the impulse to do like Reggie:

Always found interesting that the main characters (Mike & Reggie) share names with the real life actors who play them

The first sequel was pretty good too. Had a bigger budget and lot more action too. It sadly went downhill since then...

There are many good covers of the music and it has also been sampled many times

BOOOYY!

I saw it in theatre when it came out and it instantly became one of my all time favourites. I still rewatch on occasions, and I agree that the first one is the best.

Love these movies. Reg man reminds me of Bruce Campbell. Loved his ice cream uniform and sawed off shotgun.

Very unique sci Fi movies. I don't even mind that the story doesn't make sense. Was Mikey an orb? Who knows? Super fun movies.
