Petr Yan - where does he go from here?

He could be the best fighter in the world with better fight IQ. He needs to fight someone 10-15 for starters and change his approach

He's also a slow starter, becomes a real problem in 3 round fights which is where he's at right now I guess.

He has already figured out what possibly to do: create his own camp.

Yan is also looking to bring about significant changes in his team,or potentially, set up a new one in order to make himself relevantin the bantamweight title picture."

“I know I should,” he said. “I should try to modernize my trainingcamp in some way, my coaching team. Change something, implementsomething new, correct some things. I’ll try to make that happen soyou can see some changes in the future. It’s people, it’s sparringpartners, coaching staff, it’s team that’s the most importantthing. The new coaching team needs to be created, formed rather. The team I’ll be preparing with, that will be there with me at thearena, etc.”

Petr Yan Considering Change in Camp, Targets Return at UFC 299

He had a bad matchup against Merab. He fought well against Sterling who is also a bad matchup. He beat O Malley.

He's a couple wins away from another shot IMO.

But he has a shitty attitude lol like he just got out of prison.

Yan's biggest problem that everyone's figured out is that he becomes wholly beatable when he doesn't control the pace and terms of the fight. Regardless, the dude needs a win in a big way. Font/Figgy winner is probably the best bet. There isn't an obvious opponent atm.

I can't wait to see how 'everybody' implements a gameplan to control the pace against Yan, since it's so fucking easy now...

DQ doesn’t really count, great win against sandhagen, close loss to aljo but he definitely lost, “loss“ to Sean I and most others disagree with, dominated and broken by merab. Beats font or song then loser of chito sean or aljo in a trilogy fight night then a title shot maybe

ALL BW PPV for UFC 299:
O'Malley vs Vera
Merab vs Sandhagen (5 round co-main)
Yan vs Cejudo
Umar vs Martinez
Munhoz vs Kyler

Merab/Cejudo has lost its appeal with Sandhagen aiming for a March return after healing much faster than he anticipated. Merab/Sandhagen is a much more logical #1 contender fight at this point, now that Chito is getting his undeserved title shot.

He has lost 4 of his past 5; he may be a loss away from being cut. Needs to change of camps asap. He is only 30 and is a talented striker, he could get back on top with the right camp.

Dunno, he doesn't really need to change much. He lost on paper, but a DQ in a fight he was cruising in, a win and 2 coin flip SDs against champs don't really kick you far down the ladder. The only clear loss was Merab shooting 49 TD attempts.

I guess the biggest thing he could change is to not be such a slow starter and have a bit more output earlier in the fight.

Not easy, but there was a time when Yan looked unbeatable. Sterling didn't let him control pace in their rematch, and won. Merab really didn't let him do it in their fight, and won decisively. The point is that unless something changes, there's a route to victory against him.

Let him fight the winner of Font vs. Figgy. I hope it is font because I've wanted to see the boxing exchanges between font and yan for years now.
I really don't rate Font. Yan most likely beats the crap out of him.

Well, you always pick Yan, so I'm not surprised. Yan should be fighting people you don't rate nowbafter failing several times in his last attempts. The fact of the matter is that Yan has had a rough run lately and needs a step down in competition, and that's what the winner of Font vs. Figg is.

Who do you think he fights sir?
very few fighters not scheduled to fight. If Sadong wants to go again after his December bout, I can see that fight happening. Jonathan Martinez can go as well, if Yan wants to take a fight with a fighter that low. If he doesn't mind rematch, then the most logical fight would be Sanghagen.

I can see the UFC trying to put that Martinez fight together for sure.
Im not 100% they would give him Sandhagen, but that one does make sense.

Id like to see Martinez tested against a guy like Yan though.

The only person who has beaten him really is Merab. O'malley lost should have lost multiple points in each round and Sterling was a split that was scored wrong. Merab beat him by somehow breaking the takedown attempt record whilst Yan defended the most atkedowns ever. Merab's gas tank is unnatural, he didn't drop off at any point in that fight.

No shame in 1 legit loss and he could definitely make adjustments and take that fight with a bit of work on distance management.
Umar YAn actually would have been a better fight than Sandhagen, but I am guessing they wanted Sandhagen bokked so they could justify the Chito fight.

It's the most misleading 1-4 of all time. Merab beat his ass, but that was the only one of those 4 that had no controversy He has a dominant victory in his next fight he's close to another title shot.
For real. He arguably beat the current champ. And had a very close fight with the previous champ.
