3rd round Petr kicks Merab in the ribs, Merab screams in pain, and is visibly hurt, Petr Yan didnt throw another body kick until midway into the 5th round…. All I could think while watching was “KICK HIS RIBS”

How can Petr Yan have Merab visibly hurt, and not follow up to the body? Terrible killer instinct.

It’s not as simple as throw a kick and land without consequence.

There are a thousand variables that change what happens and it is all-happening at a speed we can barely comprehend. You throw the kick when it’s situationally safe for you based on the opponent. Even when hurt kicking a wrestler is risky.

That’s well-trained fighter taking a sharp approach to avoid getting controlled and stalled out.

That's just his style, I remember him in his pre-UFC days saying something about always following the gameplan and never forcing the finish. He's like, "if it happens and I drop somebody, cool; if not, IDGAF". And he was like 25 at the time.

You gotta remember that his base is a Soviet/Russian school of boxing where you always stay calm, methodical and rely on fundamentals, especially if you're winning.

He never even dropped Merab, so from his standpoint, the risk probably wasn't worth it.

Petre is cerebral and calculated. If and when there's an opportunity to finish he'll take it, he won't force it to happen.

He just put on a master class and your shitting on it

Have you ever watched Yan's fights? He's a volume puncher, not a one-shot KO guy.

Merab also has one hell of a chin so putting his lights out isn't going to be easy.

Well he said he wanted to make him suffer for 5 rounds, didn't he

Bullshit, he still applied pressure and picked his shots, he doesn't need to be dumb with it.

It would be dumb if he injured him and then immediately go into a takedown attempt like some fighters do but that was not the case. He cut off the ring and looked for the opening, Merab is tough and can still crack when injured.

I predict Yan will start getting more finishes now, he got that mojo now

That’s why Petr dropped 3 fights in a row…
