MLB is a joke. All time hits leader and 4 time champ and they couldn't get over it even though they plug gambling apps now. RIP Pete, he played before my time but the guy was quite the character and legend.

The guy was literally nicknamed "Charlie Hustle" and pretty much made his entire career a perfect example of how to play hard and give 100% effort every play.

He holds one of the most prestigious records in the sport and he did it without steroids.

___________

Rose was a switch hitter, and is MLB's all-time leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), singles (3,215) and outs (10,328).[1] He won three World Series championships, three batting titles, one Most Valuable Player Award, two Gold Glove Awards, and the Rookie of the Year Award. He also made seventeen All-Star appearances at an unequaled five positions (second baseman, left fielder, right fielder, third baseman and first baseman). Rose won both of his Gold Gloves when he was an outfielder, in 1969 and 1970.

Banning him from being involved in baseball would be reasonable but banning him from the HOF was just petty. His accomplishments are undeniable and now that he's dead he's probably getting inducted in the next 5-10 years. All because he didn't kiss ass and beg for forgiveness.

The thing was he was gambling on games he was managing. That's a pretty big conflict of interest and a serious breach.

Anyhow, I like how anal baseball is with its steroid cheats and such. Baseball though in the past was a sport that kind of prided itself in having some superior etiquette and standard of holding itself up to. Hence the informal rules of beaning players that admire their home runs, or celebrate too wildly, or "run up the score" by swinging at a 3-0 count when your team has a massive lead. It was kind of a throwback to the America where virtually everyone would don a suit when going out in public.

People from very poor countries of course couldn't understand that such a thing as etiquette could exist and so it's gone away with time as the league has been flooded with foreigners, along just a general decline of Good Christian values that Pete Rose violated with his gambling addiction.
