Just shocked by this. Even after losing pretty decisively to Nate Diaz, it seems there's a lot of people automatically assuming Frankie gets his arse kicked by Conor. While that is a very real possibility (I don't doubt for a second that Conor is a legitimate threat to anybody at 145) Frankie has fought the best of the best at both 145 and 155 and never been ko'd or submitted. On top of that, he's proven to be a real modern day Rocky, capable of taking a beating and rallying back to earn victory. He seems to be an eternal underdog, despite continuously proving the naysayers wrong. Putting aside Frankie's obviously superior resume, he's incredibly well rounded, possessing great footwork and boxing combined with a crafty takedown game and strong top control. I just can't believe that anybody would doubt that Frankie can win after everything he's done.

Those looking past him have only been watching MMA (Conor specifically and not much else) since 2014-2016.

I think you're 100% correct. Don't see how anybody who's a fan of MMA rather than just Conor McGregor could think otherwise.

Frankie Edgar is one of my top 5 favorite fighters of all time. Several reasons but one of the biggest is he is what I call a Rodney Dangerfield of MMA. For all his accomplishments still no respect from the filthy casuals.

You could argue he is the greatest LW of all time as he defeated the greatest LW of all time thrice in Penn, even though the first by close hard fought decision. Definitely one of the greatest p4p of all times. I feel he is the only man in UFC history who could be a 3 weight champion (155,145, and if he wanted 135). Never finished and all of his losses but 2 you could argue strongly he won.

Fe is the perfect example of not the size of the man in the fight, but the size of the fight in the man. He deserves far more respect for this because that is what epitomizes martial arts.

Going to win a lot of money on a Frankie win.
This. I got Frankie for like -150 against Cub even though I knew without doubt Swanson had nothing for that man. Biggest bet I have ever placed and I didn't sweat one second. Oh what a night.

Those looking past Frankie don't know who Frankie is.

If you're referring to the first Maynard fight and Aldo fight, one could argue strongly that Frankie won the Aldo fight. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to rewatch it and look past the fact that Aldo outclassed Frankie in the first two rounds. Most fighters who bring up this fight mention this as well, as do various analysts. After watching it very closely numerous times I've come to the conclusion that only round 5 is up for debate, and that the fight was 2-2 going into it.

I still agree with that statement though, with the second loss being the first Bendo fight.

I always love it when people say "I don't see how Frankie could win"... I can't see a fight under Welterweight that I couldn't see Frankie having a very solid chance of winning. The guy is amazing.

Let's just hope Edgar opens as a big underdog. He is the opposite of a the guy you would want to fight after suffering your first loss in 15 fights.

People never learn. Frankie is no joke
I truly believe he'd beat Conor

Anyone that looks past Frankie just clearly identifies themselves as a fairweather fan of the sport.

Frankie is a monster and can't be counted out in any fight.

You couldn't STRONGLY argue he won the fight, but you could put up an "ok" argument.

No one with a brain is assuming that.

Also, anyone with a brain shouldn't assume Frankie runs through Cloner like a hot knife through butter either. Cloner has his deficiencies outside of energy, but he's a lethal striker with a lot of power. The longer the fight lasts, the more it favors Frankie. Still, early on, Cloner has a good chance of hurting and maybe finishing Edgar. That's what makes his fights at 145 so interesting. Any time he's the bigger man who can abuse that reach advantage and work aggressively in the stand up, he's got a chance to win in devastating fashion.

You could strongly argue that he won the last two rounds. You could correctly state he lost the first three.

Truly one of the GOATs. Definitely the GOAT 155 and below IMHO.

Glad to see that not all of sherdog has contracted the Irish Mania. As awesome as McGregor has been, Frankie is a threat to anybody under 170. If he had more luck in those close decisions, we'd be talking about him as p4p top 5.

I could if I could make gifs from the fight, showing every single exchange in the last three rounds. I suppose I still could with timestamps. It's really the third round that people need to rewatch. Aldo stopped landing the jabs, landed the one front kick but not much else while Frankie started landing numerous clean punches toward the end of it.

Dude you're definitely one of the better posters here but you have been on a roll since 196. Keep up the good work. King Nate bless.
