Add to that working more hours than any previous generation while being paid less in real wages than the previous generations. This is part of the always being connected. People are expected to answer emails while at home for work.

I think being bombarded with images of baller lifestyles really fucks with peoples expectations and self-image. The result is racking up debt which is effectively a foot on your throat.

I'm amazed at the amount of expensive shit people buy.

True. I know they had to deal with wars, epidemic diseases, providing for large families with little/no social safety net, and overall shorter life expectancy, but I sometimes find myself being envious of my grandfathers, their fathers, etc. For the most part, they would've spent their days out working in the fields, tending to livestock, and the like. In a lot of ways, I consider that a better way of life than to go to the same building every day, sit in one spot, staring at a computer all day. To each his own, though.
