People actually criticize Jones’ record and ignore Aspinall’s weak competition?

Your butthurt tears can’t scrape the loss from jones record either Matt Hamil destroyed him

Jones haters go out of their way to let everyone know that they don’t actually watch fights. It is like a boast for some reason.

I really hope we get this fight together because it’s definitely the biggest fight to be made in the sport right now. That said if Jones handles him pretty routinely, Tom will be dismissed around here and Jones will get very little credit for the victory. That’s how it goes.

The truth is Tom doesn’t have a great résumé overall. He’s still relatively new. There’s no longevity. Tom has not established himself as an all-time great legendary fighter that would still be a legendary fighter win or lose against Jones. His whole career would be riding on beating Jones.

Crazy how no one is even slightly curious whether Aspinall has good enough TDD for Jones. Jones grappling is proven. I don't accept that fighters can just be "big guys" and stop Jones takedowns. Also no one is worried for cardio.

Jones is one of the least hit fighters, it takes tons of effort to find moments where he takes a big punch, yet everyone thinks Aspinall just lands a big one and takes Jones out 1st round. Aspinall is very unknown. And if Jones made him look like Gane everyone would just call him a white belt.
People not knowing how the fight will play out is precisely why people want to see Jones vs Aspinall are you kidding me? Well, beyond it being the obvious fight that should be made if the UFC wants to be taken seriously as a sport. The champ should ALWAYS unify against the interim champ over any other fights that could be made.

Tom has a skill set that has historically given Jon a bunch of problems. Big dude that matches Jon's size, much faster hand and foot speed than him with good clean boxing. Has a lot of the qualities that Gus and Reyes had success with but is much better and much more dangerous than both.

Jon has the wrestling and the fight IQ to make it very interesting for Aspinall in areas he isn't battle tested in.

However, this argument rings hollow when the alternative that Jones and his fanbase wants to see is Alex Pereira.

While still a bit of an unknown, Aspinall's takedown defense percentage is 100% in the UFC. He has spent the least amount of time on his back out of the entire roster at <1 second, and that was when he slipped and fell on to his back against Volkov.

Meanwhile, Pereira has been taken down by every single opponent in the UFC that has attempted to do so, including Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochaza and Israel Adesanya. When pure strikers are taking and holding him down, Jones is going to do whatever he wants to him in the grappling realm.

So if anybody wants to make the argument that Aspinall's wrestling is unproven and so he shouldn't get to fight Jones, they better make damn sure they aren't advocating for the Alex Pereira fight instead.

Don't you think that calling everything legacy is kinda giving a 'free pass' though? Jon is not only a current fighter, he is a current champion. If he is only supposed to fight the long term big names, then we're putting him in more into a category of that retirement tour stage like Cowboy getting someone like Jim Miller type spot, or that "legends league" Vitor wanted, where those fights would be individual attractions and kinda segmented from the division. But the problem is, Jon put himself into a position where he cannot be segmented. At least not without vacating.

While beating Stipe might have been a better increase in name value on paper, did anyone come out of it thinking Jon was actually much better than we thought? While beating the current top contender, even if that person falls apart in the future and doesn't stand the test of time, does cement Jon as "Yeah he actually is the best HW right now (even if the division is weak)"

Jon's legacy is already established, but legacy will ALWAYS be a case of looking at things in retrospect. You always just do the best thing you can at any given time, and the reputation sets itself in the rear view, but Jon is still driving, and he's free to park or get off at the next exit, but until then, he's got to keep his eyes forward

I agree, I hope they make the fight. But you and I know if for some reason Aspinall's TDD is horrible, he's going to be looked at like Gane, just totally disregarded. Maybe this matchup has so much hype there might be weight behind Aspinall's name on Jones resume. But I remember the same arguments for Gane, he's huge, just as fast as Jones, etc... except Gane wasn't considered deadly. To be fair after Ngannou, Gane's ground game was a little sus.

Tom is overhyped and Jon gets underhyped as people hate him.

Lots of people just want to see them fight.

Yeah I think the trouble is Jones views himself as being on sort of that retirement tour. He has fought a really long time, likely has nagging injuries and just wants to have maybe 1 more name on his resume and get paid.. Tom is very dangerous but in terms of his name it doesn't do much for Jones in his opinion. And I do think Tom gets dismissed as overrated if his performance against Jones is poor..

Fighting Stipe was def about getting that name on his resume I really had no doubt that Jones was going to win the fight.. It was a safe fight and an easy payday.. But I think Jones whoops any version of Stipe.. He is NOT well rounded enough to deal with Jones.

Some very good points you make here and I hear ya.. I think retirement is very much on the table for Jones if the UFC won't step up for a big time payday.. I am talking 20 mil at least.. It is risk versus reward for him at 38 years old big time.

I never said he didn't beat Volkov, but clearly, it's a different fight in 2024
Why? Because Volkov beat some scrubs and the ghost of gatekeeper Pavlovich? Volkov is on a nice streak, but someone's always on a nice streak; it's not a streak that makes anything like a clear demonstration of actual improvement.

Oh look its a Jones hating crybaby bitch looking to get her post count up with her new account since her old account got banned.

Who cares what the girls on the school yard are saying?

The real story is that Aspinall is holding the Interim belt and the reigning champion has no desire to defend against him. It's the reason the interim belt even exists.

Fuck Jon Jones

I mean it's the HW division it's been garbage for a long time now.

It all comes down to Aspinall's TDD. If Jones can't take him down he's getting absolutely wrecked by Tom.

Maybe. It's easy to look like a wrecking machine in 2 rounds. We saw what happened to Francis when he got pushed against Stipe to go five hard rounds. Who knows what Tom looks like when he can't explode and be fast for five rounds.

I find it insane that Aspinall fans keep pointing out that Jones got controversial decisions over Reyes and Santos. Maybe the decisions were suspect, but the fights were close and Jones basically ended both Reyes’ and Santos’ careers, as evidenced by their declines afterwards. Plus, beyond those two decisions, Jones has a strong record. Let’s compare to Aspinall’s record:

1. Blaydes 2 - This guy gets knocked out every time he gets a big fight. Tom is 1-1 with Blaydes.
2. Pavlovich - just got exposed and pieced up by Volkov.
3. Marcin Tybura - this guy just isn’t very good. Career journeyman.
4. Blaydes 1 - Leg kicked Tom for the win via knee injury
5. Volkov - probaby Tom’s best win. Volkov is consisting on the top 10, but doesn’t consistently perform.
6. Spivac - Like tubura, this guy isn’t great
7. Arlovski - don’t think this needs explanation
8. Alan Badout - who the fook is this guy?
9. Jake Collier - same as above
10+ all nobodies

And everyone is 100% sure he would destroy Jones. What am I missing?
Whats with the assumption everyone who wants Jones and Aspinall to fight assumes Tom will win, could the same be applied to the people who justify and defend Jones not wanting to fight the interim champ whilst being the champ of the division?

P.S. if you don’t want to be an obvious troll, don’t act like Tom vs Blaydes 1 is actually a legit loss, you kinda give yourself away at that point…

Let us know when Jon finishes Anthony Smith.
<{vega}>
We're all still waiting.
