I see a lot of people whining about the fact that Pennington's corner wouldn't let her quit. Ariel is on Twitter crying about it like someone's grandmother.

For some reason people forgot that this is the fight game, and one of the main jobs of a coach is to motivate their fighter and get them through adversity. It's a gruelling sport and fighters will reach the point where they want to quit in camp and in fights, and a good coach gets them through that.

There's no reward without risk, and if you're not willing to risk it in a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT, when will you risk it? Obviously their risk did not pay off, but they did the right thing in sending her out there. Hindsight is 20/20, but if Pennington managed to pull off a victory, they'd be legends right now. Guys like Angelo Dundee and Teddy Atlas became legends with their motivational corner work that willed their fighters into territory they probably couldn't reach themselves.

If this was a male fighter challenging for a title, and he went back to his corner and said "my nose is broken, I'm done", he'd get CRUCIFIED by the fans, but because it's a woman, everyone is acting like someone's grandma. Get over it.

I gaurantee you Rocky will be glad she went out on her shield instead of quitting in the corner. I think she deserves major props for soldiering on.

No.

You are an idiot.

Having a 100% chance of getting permanently messed up far outweighs 1% of getting a Hail Mary.

So by your "logic" a referee should have the fighters safety first and foremost but the corner shouldn't ...

I don't care, hit him with your groin ~ Greg Jackson to GSP

If Pennington had even a little more than snowballs chance in hell at winning it, then maybe. But the chances of her ending that fight with KO or submission were basically 0%. There was no reason for her to go on.

And most people here didn't give a shit about the fight anyways, and considered Kelvin/Jacare the main event, so it's not like she got any glory out of it.

LOL holy shit just woke up here (UK) did she really say she wanted to give up over a broken nose?

Good god thank goodness i didn't waste my beauty sleep to watch this

Rocky: "I'm done. I want to be done."
Coach: "No. No. No."
Rocky: "Yes."
Coach: " Nononononononono"

Coach: "I know. I know. Come of girl. I know it hurts. Let's power through this. Change your mindset. Let's just throw everything we got. We will recover later. Throw everything we got."

My 1.35 Rupees:

- There was a lot of "we" and "us" in the coach's statements. I didn't realize he was taking those punches as well.

- She wasn't going to win unless Amanda slipped on some wet canvas and blew out her knee. So, why have her take more punishment? Throw in the towel and let her fight in a few months. Now, she is going to be on the shelf for longer. Hard to make any money if you are injured.

your avatar explains everything. low level interests, low level thinking

Haven't see n the fight yet, but if a fighter says there done, then I see no reason to put her back in there. Do the coaches get paid a bonus if there fighter wins? There check has already cleared. There leading a lamb to slaughter.

if she wanted to quit they should have stopped it because she lost her will to continue, I guess since you are a fighter and a corner man you know better though so

Just CTEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

you're wrong. once a person says they're done, they're done.

nobody says that and then comes back and wins. you know why? because when someone says that, in their mind they have already been defeated.

do i want the fighter to continue as a fan? sure, i want to see a fight with a decisive ending.

but do i understand that the person quitting is done? yes, and i do not want to see someone in that mindset continue to "fight" because they won't.

it doesn't matter that she broke her nose, or if her arm was broken. the point is, in HER mind she was done. even if it was only a broken fingernail, if that's what makes her quit, then i don't want to see her continue because a mentally defeated fighter isn't a fighter anymore, they're a punching bag.

Did you know Raquel broke her leg in a accident before this fight right? Straight out of physical therapy to fight Amanda in months. Leg probably was still wasn't healed but just went 5 rounds with Amanda anyway. Cut the tough guy shit cause 9/10 most people wouldn't have last that long with one leg.

I can understand both sides. Pennington said she was done but title shots are hard to come by and Nunes has questionable cardio
