Penalty for turning your back in MMA

wtf? a part of fighting is running. Turning your back usually is a disadvantage. But if you suddenly run and then turn around and smash them then why would you punish them? If they constantly run away and disengage, then it's no different to stefan struve vs rosholt. They both stood there LOOKING AT each other, doing nothing

You saw what happened when Rousey turned her back

For all of you saying "the penalty is getting hit from behind when you don't see it coming".....exactly how many times have you seen that happen after someone turns their back to run away?

There's actually a few gifs that get posted, including another one of someone turning their back then being collected by a headkick as they look over the shoulder like what happened to Rousey

?????

Rousey didn't do anything remotely close to "turn her back" or run away.
She wound up with her back to Holly because she fell after being hit/pushed/pulled.

I was only talking about the similarity of Ronda turning her head over the shoulder and receiving the kick, the circumstances for how she ended up facing Holly are different, yes.

I don't think there should be if it's just to get back to a better position.

People shit on Gus for doing it but he puts on greats fights and stands and trades when he gets back in position, I see no reason to penalize that.

I would argue fighters are already punished more for this standing than they are on the ground. If you just turn you back on an opponent who's trading with you then theres a good chance you'll lose via TKO but fighters can get away with turtling on the ground a lot more depending solely on the lack of strikes to the back of the head, kness and kicks on the ground for their defence.
