Nobody with a brain would try to argue that Cobain was a guitar god. He was average at playing guitar. It's his songwriting and lyrics that made him so great.

Those werent that great either. Kurt Cobain was at the right place at the right time. The best thing to come out of Nirvana was the Foo Fighters.

That album alone kills. Add in Animals, The Division Bell, Meddle, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Obscured By Clouds, and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, and you have an all time great band. Hell, Floyd is UNDER rated imo.

the problem is that later generations might have trouble putting things in context. The reason nirvana was so huge was because they brought a different sound to the forefront of music. They weren't the first to do grunge, but they did it better and more popularly than anyone else.

saying the beatles are overrated is just plain ludicrous. if you listen to some of their music it could play on the radio today and you wouldn't bat an eye. They were incredibly talented and did something no one else has done since.
