Every time he comes into a scene I absolutely cringe. he overacts and over compensates his lack of natural talent by overacting and completely over emphasizing every syllable of every word and he makes the worst facial expressions to try and convey the one emotion he knows how to convey, anger.
All he does is yell his lines to make him look like he has passion when in reality its just a deflection from his lack of talent.
what is crazy to me is how the entire world thinks this guy is some sort of character actor. Like he shows such amazing range in his roles. This guy sucks, period.
Just watch him in SanAndreas that is basically the pinnacle of his shit overacting. He yells every line and forces his urgency like a 4th grader playing an overzealous carrot in a school play.
this guy sucks.

I liked him in John Adams and Sideways.

He's actually one of the few actors I try to avoid if possible.

I liked him but have to agree somewhat. When he blew up, he got overpraised for a while.

How is this a "yeah I said it" kind of thread?

Everyone know he sucks.

I was talking to a group of actors (nobody famous mostly background people) recently and they were talking about some of the best actors around today and his name came up and I was completely shocked.

His performances in Sideways and American Splendor are immaculate.

He's pretty good. Even when he's not it's fine because everyone likes him.

I thought he was great in Sideways and Straight out of Compton. I enjoyed how well he played a generally unlikeable character.

Sounds like you are overreacting from one single movie. Have you sen John Adams? It contradicts basically everything you said about his acting.

Personally, I think he's great.

Brass off. Giamatti is freaking brilliant. He absolutely stole Private Parts and The Negotiator despite almost no screen time in either. Both those flicks are real crowd pleasers, too. They're better than you expect. Of course Sideways, American Splendor, and John Adams are his big ones. He has some other roles like the recent Compton movie, and about a million amazing small character roles splashed across a respectably large filmography. I love that he pops up in bizarre films like John Dies at the End.

Loved him in The Illusionist and that movie too... I should rewatch it.

nah, hes awesome.

He isn't overrated at all. No one has ever called him some top tier chameleon actor like a daniel day lewis.

He serves his purpose and he does it well. Just like how Danny Trejo is a badass mexican. Giamatti is a good bit/character actor that does comedy and angry/serious stuff well like John C Reilly.

He is great in Sideways - one of my favorite movies.

Unless the name Tom Hanks precedes the claim "is the most overrated actor ever," then the claim is false. Is Paul Giamatti's name next to Spencer Tracy's and Katharine Hepburn's on the list of the select few actors to win consecutive best acting Oscars? No. Hanks' name is, though. And you know what?

If Paul giamatti was in cast away, it would have been 45 minutes of giamatti on an island by himself screaming like a lunatic with a mad face trying to scene steal with NOBODY around him. The guys sucks and John Adams is a pile of shit too. That show was unwatchable as is Billions. I just dont get that you guys dont see this as well. he is a complete overactor that attempts to steal every scene he is in. If I were an actor with any clout I would never want to work with this guy.
