Media Pat Downey about wrestling Yoel at RAF

round 3 could also reasonably be a 10-8, i didn't score it that way. but it could have been.

also round 4 could be scored for romero
I haven't it watched it in a minute, so memory isn't the best but I remember Romero needing a finish in that 5th round. Two judges thought so as well

yeah that's why i prefaced my statement with it being the worst scorecard of all time.

I also think how darling whittaker is on sherdog clouds peoples vision regarding the scoring of the fight. also the weight miss makes people not want to score it as it should be scored. they see it as some wrong being righted, but it's just 2 wrongs.

Because you didn't agree with it? Oh boy..
yes?

If you called a fight the worst robbery you've ever seen wouldn't it be because you didn't agree? lol... (not that i called it a robbery, because i didn't score it for yoel)

I don't know if I'd say it's THE worst robbery, but there's different reactions to how a fight can be scored. I had Jon Jones beating both Gus and Santos but could see why others would score it the other way. I didn't have that with Whittaker/Romero.

It's not a robbery IMO, because it should have been a draw in my eyes. nothing was taken from yoel. only something given to whittaker. I carefully selected the language worst score card i've ever seen.

48-45 yoel
48-46 yoel
47-46 yoel
47-47 draw

are all more reasonable than 48-47 whittaker IMO. that's why i think this is so egregiously bad. Gus vs jones comes down to how to score 1 round. This is far worse than that.

Alright that's cool. I thought it was one of the rare occasions where the rightful winner was called correctly.

Not really. Maybe guys like Derek Brunson and Ronny Markes taking Yoel down multiple times is impressive. In MMA Yoel was gifted but super flawed, lacked technique standing, horrible cardio for 15 minutes and could only fight at a slow pace/limited output, his top control was never the best although his takedowns were incredible but also drained his cardio a lot.

Dude hit really hard, had an insane wrestling base, he was explosive with good reflexes but not insanely quick. No fight IQ to speak of. Its honestly impressive Yoel got as far as he did, I thought he lost to Jacare and probably should have been finished by Tim.
Yoel Romero was never good according to this dude.

On the contrary my idiot, he was great but its remarkable how far he got with being such an underdeveloped fighter nonetheless. And I think he had some pivotal luck at a key juncture in his career...70-80% of media and majority of fans had Jacare winning and then the Kennedy fight was a little crooked but a lot of that blame can go on an incompetent ref.

Yoel is remarkable, but he got away with a lot just off intimidation factor, his raw athleticism, defensive wrestling, power and insane durability. Because his striking defense, technique, cardio, ringcraft etc. Were always pretty poor.

Kennedy was grabbing Yoels glove while punching him. If anything it should have been a DQ win for Yolo.
Jacare fight was close. I get that.

If anything Yoel was one of the smartest fighters out there. Knowing his limitations he smashed a lot of people. His timing and killer instinct were as good as anybody.

He had good timing for sure. Killer instinct...ehh sometimes it was good, sometimes it was completely nonexistent.

As for the Kennedy glove thing, ref didnt see or call it so that really isn't a terribly valid rebuttal. But the allowance of stoolgate causing Romero to recover was blatant and bizarre. Glove grabbing is also fairly common, sometimes it happens by literal accident from wrist control. Its a foul by Kennedy but nobody saw it in real time to do something about it, no different than Aldos fence grab vs Mendes that led to the knee KO.

Jacare fight had like 12 media outlets for Jacare, 3 for Romero and 3 for a draw. Majority of fans had it for Jacare too. A weird decision where you could justify a draw if you really wanted but a Romero decision was tough...Jacare kinda clearly won R2 and 3.

Nickal wrecked Downey twice by tech fall. He will beat Yoel somewhat easy as well.
Tbf Downey loves smoking and drinking lol I don't think he took the Yoel match very seriously at all (especially as a late replacement sort of thing). I think Nickal makes it look easy as well but give my man Pat some credit! He's out here wrestling while consuming more beer and weed than any other guy on the mat

So what because someone's foul goes unnoticed by ref it makes it ok?
Jacare fight is romero win or draw.No way Jacare won it
