I should visit Rome more, or at least once again. Haven't been there since 2006, I think. And 1984 before then.
I fell in love with it as soon as I went in 2000 as part of a trip with husband's work jolly, first few days in Venice. Went back many times after. We were lucky enough that the company had money to burn so we were in suites in the fanciest hotels. Rented apartments in The Trastavere which were also lovely having access to a kitchen, which got us to Tuscany in the middle of nowhere a few times. Love to cook.

I had very low expectations but I actually really liked it. Beautiful scenery, great architecture. All my interactions with people were positive, which was funny compared to the stereotype about Parisians. I'm sure some of them are rude and condescending because we have some Parisian expats who are exactly like that in Canada, but it's clearly not everyone. I couldn't stay long though so I didn't get to see some of the big ticket attractions.

Pretty sure I've had andouilette at one time or another. Can't say it made much of an impression on me, one way or the other. Your talk of pig rectum reminds me of the old Chris Rock joke "I'll eat a pig's ass if they cook it right." :)
The stench as it came out towards the table, my goodness. I love offal, but I wasn't going anywhere near that.

It's a bit underwhelming for a tourist. It's like NYC. I am sure it is fun as a local. I am also biased because I went there as a teenager. It's weird to see old dudes hit on young girls.

I was in Brussels when that happened, they shut the city down for a bit
Nicest band, too. They must have been scared stiff. Nice to see them a few years later, doubt they'll be playing in Paris again.

Don't remember my first visit at all because I was only 3. Second visit was July 2006. It was short but sweet. I don't think we even stayed the night. As I recall it, we flew into Rome. And then drove right to Tuscany, only seeing the outskirts of Rome by the airport.

Then, after staying in a country house in Tuscany and visiting the smaller nearby cities for day trips, we went to Rome for one day and didn't stay overnight. So yeah, I want to see more of Rome, go to Vatican City (which technically counts as visiting another country), and also go south of Rome for the first time, to Naples, etc...

You may not know this, but Daniel Burnham wanted to build Chicago in the image of a modern Paris, but they wouldn't let him.

Why would you go to Paris when you could just go to Algeria for a lot cheaper

Paris was nice til the late 90s/early 00s.

2/3 shithole - 1/3 overpriced, overcrowded tourist trash now.
