The attack happened a year ago but the parents were indicted last week and both parents are in custody for reckless homicide, involuntary manslaughter and endangering children. The dog's name was Kilo and it was apparently known the dog had a vicious temperament. They left the baby alone with an 8-year-old sibling. The baby rolled off the couch and the dog grabbed it.

I've had a few pitbulls, most were fine, but 1 that came from a previous owner was tapped in the head and definitely had a vicious temperament. I would never have left it alone with a kid. I couldnt even leave it alone with other adults. I actually had to put it down after it attacked multiple people. I spent thousands on dog trainers and it didn't change a thing.

Sad, but certain trash people are attracted to these dogs and encourage the dogs to act like trash.

Call me extreme but I'd just expell all these killer dogs into Africa or somehwere else. Actually they'd kill people there too. Where do you expel them ? Killing them is unwaranted but why have them at home where one of them can snap and murder your old mom or a neighbour child. They are killer dogs is what it is.

you are an idiot if you own a pitbull, if there is no demand for these animals if they stop being bred. Even if you own a pitbull that does nothing wrong you are in some small part contributing the continuation of a breed that is responsible for 66 % of all dog related fatalities.

I love Dogs. My neighbour owns a Rottweiler that must weigh north of 100lbs, and I'll roll around on the grass with him like he's still a puppy.

I'll happily make friends with Dobermans, Mastiffs, German(and Belgian)Shepherds and Rhodesian Ridgebacks. But Pitbulls and XL Bullies are two of the few dog breeds I'll cross the street to avoid. It's just not worth the risk.

I wouldn't trust those you listed with small children. Like you said: it ain't worth the risk. Another animal at eye level can make most dogs snap.

Friend of my had a Pitbull... really well trained dog. The dog loved to play, was really fun all around. It was the poster child of "There are no bad dogs, there are bad owners", sometimes I would go to the park with them to play. He obeyed on command and was especially playful with children. I actually thought about eventually getting one since in my mind the fearmongering was demystified.
One random day the dog snapped out of nowhere and went after his niece. The kid was just sitting on a couch playing on the phone. She got some nasty scar on the chest and had surgery on her forearm... and she could consider herself lucky. My friend lost 2 fingers trying to stop the dog.

After that he and his in law went to the woods and put the dog down.

I dont know if they are more agressive, but if they do snap the consequences are way more dire. I could never have a dog like that, walking on eggshells the whole time.

Parents should be charged. It's great to see people held responsible for their stupidity.

I would never trust a full-breed pitbull with a small child.. something about them loves to kill smaller prey. It's unfortunate and not their fault, but once you have a baby in your house that animal has to go.

I love dogs, but I wouldn't trust a pitbull. To many so called accidents happening with them. They are like a ticking time bomb.
I wouldn't trust a rescue pit, which is what I believe is a big factor in a lot of these dogs' temperament. Lot of irreparable abuse that new owners don't even bat an eye at when they grab their cute little pittie from the pound. Then you have the other side where they're being raised to be killer guard dogs.

Licensing could solve a lot of problems. They should be treated differently than golden retrievers when you're just handing them off to people. If we let anyone and everyone just buy a car and drive, there'd be accidents all over the place too.

What an awful story. It's sad to see all these negative stories about pit bulls, honestly. My brother had a pitfall terrier for 15 years and he was the best dog I've ever been around. Polite, quiet, and good with kids. We never left him alone with any kids, of course. You shouldn't do that with any dog because you never know.

if you have a large dog and it bites your children, live with the consequences.

A few weeks back, a lady and her kids were casually loading her car with a black lab, it was a "non aggressive" dog, however it was indeed sizeable. I was minding my business, walking, exercising in the morning, and their lab jet from the house all the way to the streets to catch me. I thought running behind a bush would help me, damn dog jumped right through the bush and bit my back.

The owner panicked, assured me that "it's never happened before", and I'm a sherdogger made of steel or could be the puffer jacket that saved me, not happy that my jacket is ripped, not happy about dogs..... you gotta big dog and it turns on your kids, it's game over..... if you have a kid, you've got enough responsibilities, why add dog to the mix? I guess some are preexisting, but still, kid or dog makes a whole lot of sense. Seems like the pit and other aggressive dogs are gaining traction, and I find it an appalling trend.
