Why would Islam have chosen to wait to move to welterweight to fight Topuria? You're assuming a post-hoc mentality that Topuria was a worthy title challenger. Islam had no reason to believe that back in May 2025.

Again, if Topuria hadn't been inactive, and had instead fought every 4 months, he would have made himself an undeniable title challenger and Islam's calculus might have been different. Islam wasn't afraid of Topuria. He just didn't think he was worth his time. That's probably not true in hindsight, but hindsight is 20/20.
