Overnight ratings for Fri ....

It counted everyone who watched at least "six minutes" of the show

That is how ratings work.
That isn't a WWE thing
That is why they have quarter-hour breakdowns

Nice spin

Its almost like some people are trying to make others thing that each venue wasnt set up for that many tickets sold.

That the UFC could only sell 4k compared to Bellators 7k when the reality is thats all the venues were set up for and could hold.

Its not like each could sell 15k tickets but UFC only sold 4 and Bellator did 7. So they spin the Bellator catching up by selling more tickets head to head.

and Bellator should be close, I actually think they should have won the ratings battle honestly. They have a much larger and more watched network in 10 mill more homes, they have 4x the average viewership each night than FS1. You can air an hour of a dude picking up dogshit and it will get 600k viewers. They had earlier start time, went over their slot 35 minutes while UFC aired later, 10-12 and ended 5 minutes early.

They also had a title fight, two of their biggest stars and TNA champ.

Plus its their normal night.

That is 100-150k less than Bellator usually does on Fri

what does bellator usually do on friday?

lol, you are confusing VIEWERS with RATINGS
2.7 is the amount of viewers
0.8 is the ratings for the demo you quoted

They are not the same calculations

The actual rating for the 8/29 Smackdown was 2.0 (1.95 rounded)

what demo is that 2.0 from?

Meltzer said the overnights are:
UFC .54
Bellator .43

He said if those ratings stick that viewership should be about 650k for UFC & 550-600k for Bellator

650k for a .54? haha
stop, dave, please
does he not know the tv universe estimates? whether new or old? lol

whats crazy is they still havent done a system that actually counts everyone, that every cable box you get from Dish, DTV, Comcast, Time Warner etc has something that tracks what you watch.

Isnt the system now only 20k people have the boxes and they use that data to account for the 120 mill people who have tv's? Isnt that how it works?

So really me watching Bellator and UFC isnt actually being counted .

yes, im of the mind set that ANYONE signing up for a television service should receive proper instrumentation to calculate the myriad of data sets

costly yes but surely the necessary funding would come about to find exact numbers

They should be able to but I'm sure there are some Privacy rights issues.

The whole Nielsen system is rather antiquated.

Nice....Bellator catching up to UFC. Larger attendance, near equal ratings,...

That's one way to like look at it. At the end of the day spike needs bellator to pull in a shitload of viewers. If they can't pull viewers then they will need to find another product that will.

Those numbers suck and they could have put something else in that timeslot and gotten more people to watch. I bet the salaries were high too and by the sounds of it the gate was also atrocious. I doubt it matters to spike if bellator is catching up to the ufc, its all about maximum #s for the timeslot.

The ufc did a great job by cutting whatever #s bellator could have potentially got in half by putting their card next door in the same timeslot. Remember there are only so many people who watch mma, so instead of a large amount of them watching a single show they are now divided with the head to head. Bellator can't afford to have that happen and I wouldn't be surprised if the ufc starts putting on fight pass cards during bellators timeslot to keep dividing the total potential audience. If they could do that for 1 year straight then bellator may end up with 400k averages and get tossed in the trash by spike regardless of what the ufc #s are

exactly, and i know you enjoyed the tito segment, right? ;-)

was expecting it to be pretty much a dead heat. UFC hurt Bellator a bit more than I was expecting.

indeed, Bellator will start putting cards during UFC PPV timeslot (starting on november 15th) and belive me, that will affect a lot to UFC, because the harcore fan will continue buying the product, but the "casual" fan not anymore, because they will think, why should i buy a mma event when on spike i can watch a mma event free? that will fuck UFC a lot....before i though UFC 180 sells over 300k, but now the half

so pretty much..wwe wrestling owns mma..so unfortunate

WWE is such a powerhouse that they can produce absolutely pathetic tv shows and still pull great numbers. 4 million for RAW and close to 3 million for Smackdown. Good for them. Much respect for the machine.

The problem with counting what all channels are turned to, versus the 20k or whatever the Nielson sample size is, is that the data is not exactly the same. If you use the Nielson box you get some remote device that has information about your age and sex (advertisers need that) and then you have to click that device every so often so they can see that you are still in the room and/or awake and tell how many people are in the room watching.

How do they know that? Don't people have a box on their TV that tracks what they watch, and sends it to Nielson or whoever? How would they know who's watching the TV?

Serious question, I have no idea how ratings gathering works.

I read an article and there is some kind of remote control that each family member gets. They have to click that every so often so that they know that the person is watching (and get the related info about the person's age).

WWE does 250 hrs of TV every year
They do 200 hrs more on their network

Even with all that overexposure they still do pretty well. It is amazing

Nope, UFC is bigger than soccer and the NFL, Dana said so. These numbers should be a reality check for some people, MMA is not as popular as some would have us believe.

It looks like a pager and It has a motion sensor in it. My wife and I were part of a ratings panel for about a year and a half a while back.
