Overnight ratings for Fri ....

UFC 911k .5 in the demo
Bellator 667k .28 in the demo

Seems like Bellator did exactly what they averaged last season and UFC did slightly better.

Neither really took much from the other but have to figure without them on same night Bellator would have done better and UFC would have done over a mill.

Which is what Spike should've known would happen since, when the WWE and TNA had a brief head to head on Monday nights, both audiences basically stuck to their show the entire time and very little channel surfing happened.

Honestly I'd LOVE to see how the Tito/Bonnar deal impacted the Curran vs Freire fight, if at all.

You wouldn't be able to tell that unless maybe the viewership dropped. If it rose, it was more likely because Pitbull/Curran was the only match-up a lot of people watching UFC simultaneously cared about, and it took place mostly during a break in the UFC event.

BTW, the top 100 is out, and UFC made it w/ 911K, while BMMA isn't listed. Shows that drew 550K are.

Terrible ratings all around

911k is above average for a UFC fight night on FS1. 667k is about average for Bellator on Spike. It appears neither was really hurt by the other.

Just because it falls in line with the norm of UFC on FS1 does not mean they are good ratings. Sub one million with the quality of fighters on display, is a failure

Hardly considering FS1 primetime station average is about 300K. UFC more than tripled that number and actually pulled really well in the key demo.

If your rating is above the station average it's good, below it is bad. UFC is crushing FS1 station average making them a very valuable asset. UFC is destination programming meaning people tune to FS1 because UFC is on. FS1 could not pull that same number with a different show.

Spike on the other hand averages 800k in primetime. So anything below that is bad for Spike. Bellator drags down Spikes ratings. The only thing saving it is Viacom owns the property and can make money beyond advertising. Bellator rating is bad for Spike but on par for Bellator.

Quality of fighters =/= name value. Just because it's a great card doesn't mean that there's a name value draw there. Nobody on the UFC card was a draw on his own, not to mention on a Friday night where they've notoriously done poor regardless of the channel.

Bellator's number is somewhat concerning given how heavily promoted Mo and Lashley are plus a title fight. With that said, it's not like it's the end of the world there either.

That's why I'd love to see the quarterlies.

Also I don't want to say Sam Caplan is lying because he threw the "probably" bit out there but Greg Savage reported the night of that Rampage's debut fight did about a $500,000 gate. So I'm not sure he's being entirely truthful.

The top 100 is about key demo ratings. So shows with fewer viewers still win if the key demo is higher. That is why UFC is so high on the list.

I heard Bellator 106 the failed PPV that became the free event did 350k gate so this likely isnt their biggest gate, just maybe most tickets sold.

exactly, and i know you enjoyed the tito segment, right? ;-)

I sure did. The key to that segment was that Tito was genuinely caught off guard and seriously gotten to. You can see at first when he was making the talking gesture with his hands that he looked nervous and like a poor actor. Then after the mask comes off you can tell when titos "acting mask" is suddenly replaced with legit butthurt which is exactly at the second when it really registers for him that Justin mccully is involved. You can tell there's something real to that angle and I'm interested to see what mccully has to say about Tito over the next few months.

indeed, Bellator will start putting cards during UFC PPV timeslot (starting on november 15th) and belive me, that will affect a lot to UFC, because the harcore fan will continue buying the product, but the "casual" fan not anymore, because they will think, why should i buy a mma event when on spike i can watch a mma event free? that will fuck UFC a lot....before i though UFC 180 sells over 300k, but now the half

Good post. This may be what bellator needs to do to get the Ufc to stop counter programming them and I hope those ppv #s are less than 200k. There's a ton of people who recognize and have love for Tito and bonnar whereas Cain doesn't really have fans like that. People acknowledge his skills but there's no massive name recognition or emotional connection with people hence they are taking the card to mexico hoping he will get some easy fans based on his Mexican heritage.

Da Bombers is interested in Justin McCully.. VERY interested.

The only thing I don't like about this whole thing is Tito Ortiz is going to win these fkn fights, and his delusions of grandeur are going to grow so wildly.. He will be the best 27th ranked LHW in the world, that's for sure.
