Was watching some mma power punchers and noticed something...

We all know for power you punch with your body

But is it better to move the body and throw the punch all in one motion (like I had been doing up till now) or to rotate the body then explode with the punch less than a moment after

When you shadow box into a rhythm to relax, yes.

Hot damn. Best is to simply punch with the full motion of your arms. left, right, left and so on, open palms.

Move your hips in opposite direction to generate more power until you'll reach the climax of dynamic power output.

But seriously, this old dude has superb videos on youtube.

He's an inspiration to me growing older, boxing as a hobbyist for roughly 20 years.

Perfectly you have to generate a line of physical force. It comes out of your legs, hips, shoulders first and you're forcing the extended arm after that into your target.
So body goes first. Otherwise you'll loose power.

MMA is a bit more complicated due to its dynamics of positions, threats etc.
A short not fully extended hit will still deal damage.

Are you trolling?! I think you do.

Striking in one motion is harder to read, usually faster and has less power, but is often rewarded with good timing/positioning. Moving each section of your body in correct sequence forms a stronger kinetic chain and develops more power, but is usually slower and easier to read if it is not disguised by the motion of a different technique or movement.

I would listen to your coach on the best way to approach this. I've had some that are prescriptive and want each technique done a specific way, and others that are descriptive and leave different aspects to personal interpretation.

I was taught hips first but at the end of the day, what matters is whether you land or not.

related note: Just fixed an issue of me not extending my hips enough with punches and holy shit this feels like a super power

I'm realizing even once you have "good" punches their are still usually edges you can clean up a bit

May I ask are you at some boxing / MMA gym ? I'm also interested in seeing some of your striking. Wether a bag or mits or something else.

How do I spell weather. Not the weather but as in this or that.

It is absolutely wrong.

Basis to generate power is from floor. So from basis of legs fundament, then ankles joints, knees, hips, core, then shoulders and arms....something like this kinetic chain directed by physics and body mechanics.
Arms and partially involved shoulders might generate in best case approx 33 % of max possible power. Not more.

To use shoulders enough you will need to use core and in order to use core you need to use hips. And to use hips and knee joints you need legs.

Fundament of power punch in boxing or other arts is biomechanically determined to have physical basis from support fundament, i.e in boxing from support legs basis and action.
Exactly this is core point where to watch part of body mechanics.
STFU comments, set play speed to 0.25 and watch game basic beginnings. From fundament.

First thing you will need in boxing is ability to predict opponent's actions and ability to provoke him to do certain actions, timing, speed and precision pus really good gas tank.

One from real life I had to see was am boxer with nickname Undefeated from DaTech Streetz. There isn't thing like empty hands and unarmed stuff.
He had opted to have more papers about education. Maybe he really had iron balls : after permanently partially disabled 2 guys he
had passed stuff eliglible to get grant for Uni via exams and discussions in person.
I even don't think that he was in real life happy.

If doesn't have legs will generate lesser power.

Plus you always might manage to run from him.
