TLDR I have a striking base and generally I've still been learning and improving as a striker in the MMA gym but today they were going over some basics. And I mean BASICSSSS. literally like the stuff your dad teaches you boxing wise. Am I a dick for kinda skipping out on it and just hitting the bag?

I once watched David benevidez work on his jab for 20 minutes straight. Dad moving the noodle, David popping it with a jab and making adjustments.

I helped sr. As best I could for the rest of the session with his team. The next day when I came in to assist again I watched David benevidez work on his jab for 20 minutes straight. Dad moving the noodle, David popping it with a jab and making adjustments.

I assisted where I could and after a few hours we split and I saw them the next day. Working on the jab. 20 minutes.

Yes.

The basics win fights.

You should go fuckin apologize to the instructor.

Seriously. No joke.

u think ur straight right is picture perfect and impossible to improve?

olympic weightlifters train the same two lifts every single day for their entire careers

There is always time to train the fundamentals. It’s always a good idea. In everything. Even great drummers will often break out a practice pad and practice diddles (I know) and paradiddles. They do it all the time.
It stops you from developing bad habits and cleans up your technique.

it was like how to throw a straight
Straight full power punch in boxing is risky stuff. You need to " sneak in " punch by getting oppoent's attention with other kind of action, get some response activity and in this moment " sneak " straight.
Because one from most risky things is to throw full power straight and get planned counter from someone who is good counter puncher with good power and timing....in momeny when you throw your stright right...
Devastating stuff.

Btw boxing authorities often had spent hours to punch bag, pads etc on daily basis with the same punces they knew long ago.

Automatization is KING.
Because fighter should do job when he is nervous, tired, even damaged a bit etc...

The same throws for example or even shooting sport: if you had for example did some 600 shots with said size and caliber pistol, ofc it is enough to process someone...but isn't yet enough to compete vs athletes in competitions... therefore they are paying for cartridges, spending time for shooting range years in row. Despite action is the same and long ago welp known how should be done.
