At risk of coming across as an elitist - Maybe its early days or I haven't viewed a sufficient amount of these actors works but I'm not seeing range , most of them are just being themselves.

I was about to select Dano who in reality is a reserved quirky guy and most of the time his characters are exactly like that. Same could be said about all of them.

By the time they were 40:

Al Pacino had starred in Serpico, Godfather 2 and Dog Day Afternoon.
Robert De Niro - Godfather, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy.

The new breed just isnt all that great. Very reflective in the films we have been privy to in the past decade and a bit.
