Hellraiser itself is an inventive take on demonic spirits though and a worthy horror movie.
Night of the Living Dead is a classic of the genre. I love the original Romero zombies… they embody the creeping inevitability of death and are in that way more “real” and scary than the modern athletic zombies. The movies also had underlying political themes and weren’t just monster movies.
The Exorcist is just a great movie and no movie has done demonic possession better. It perfectly portrays the anxiety of inexplicable awe in the face of an overwhelming world, something horror and religion share.
