So I remember in the UFC's pre-teen years there is this thing about Dana White training to fight Tito Ortiz back when I was only a teenager(now30).

Man them were some tough marketing days.

Any real knowledge of insight would be cool

Or any other goofy ufc gimics antick or plain old fuckery discussed would be ideal

Thanks

Tito got lucky that fight never happened. Dana is a beast.

He looks like a cattle auctioneer in this pic.....

Tito put in his contract that he would get to spar Dana in boxing (Tito being Tito and petty). Dana decided to get in shape and actually train for it, filming the process and marketing the sparring like a match. Tito apparently didnt like that Dana was trying to make money off of it and didnt show up to fight. Dana avoided an asskickage and made Tito look like a wuss at the same time. Tito took a massive L on that one.

This is how I recall it going down as well.

Ortiz would have beat Dana into a living death and then celebrated with his goofy grave digger move.

People suggesting that Ortiz was scared are nuts.

So what if Dana was to monetise the sparring match. That was the one moment where you could legally knock seven shades of shit out of Dana and that would have took him down a notch with all his big man bravado. Tito messed up big time

Ahh sounds legit. I wonder what danna was gunna do fight or flight

It wasn't a desperate marketing attempt it was true grudge match because Tito wanted to whoop his ass and they decided if they was going to fight they might as well get paid for it. Tito wanted to fight an MMA fight but Dana Said his wrestling sucked so he would only agree to a boxing match well as time went on Dana was advised to pull out of the fight but refused and just before the fight was to take place Tito pulled out. I can't remember why but Tito was basically scared to box Dana. They showed Dana training a few times and to be honest he was not frightening looking to say the least he was very slow and seemed inaccurate but he was over 40 years old and had not trained hard in years. Anyway Tito bailed

Scared.......the guy that fought Liddell twice , w Silva and Machida was " scared" to fight a 40 year old neverwas with boxing gloves on ? Get real.

The fight didn't happen for whatever reason, but " scared " had nothing to do with it. It was some good PR for Dana , he got to look like the badass that shoed a 220 lb pro fighter away , at least to the " I take everything I see on tv at face value " types anyway . Shitty , strategically edited and scripted reality tv is what that was.

Dude Dana was undefeated in his boxercise class at that time which is the only boxing record (amateur or otherwise) that anyone can find on him.

guys who say this type of things are either trolling or generally really dumb. Most pro fighters will back away from a real fight with a big mouthed nobody if they are smart and well managed. Internet warriors then say 'oh they were scared' either because they are dumb or simply do not understand business. Dumb in that they think the desire to give an a$$ whooping should be enough to make the pro fight and they do not realize that business wise it is the worst thing you could do. It is a no win situation.
