I've watched this debate a few times, and I always get a kick out of it. It's something I wish we would see more of - a civilized discourse about difference of opinion and constructive expression of ideas.

Like most people these days, I'm guilty of falling into the lazy attitude that vitriol, parroting and cheap shotting are acceptable sometimes. It's not.

If the king of right wing talking heads and left wing comedians can do it, why can't we and our politicians? I'm gonna try harder going forward.

I can't watch the video. Did Stewart take it serious or did he try and do his routine where he makes crazy faces and tries to say hes neutral but obviously shits on one side 96% of the time?

That's O'Reilly's entire shtick as well. Why wouldn't Stewart do that with someone who's also doing it?

It always confuses me when someone attacks the people they hate for X, ignoring that the people they like do the exact same thing. Thoughts... how do they work? Motherfucking magic up in this bitch.

I don't think Stewart pretends to be neutral. He does however tend to try to have a serious discussion with his viewpoint and whenever he is given a hard response or question, he cracks a joke and ignores it. I haven't seen this thing in a couple years but I remember it mostly being o'reilly with picture cards not really making much sense and Steward installing a podium that made him taller than O'Reilly. I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain Steward makes the claim Clinton got us to a surplus with the national debt in the 90's instead of just the annual budget which is truly telling if he though that. Whoever goes through it the first time, reference it if it's there.

Both are shills.

One funny because he is a comedian.

Other funny because he tries to be serious.

Both count for nothing though.

One fooled a generation appearing sincere.

Other fooled a generation appearing outraged.

Neither would find room in my lifeboat.

I just read that Melissa Harris Perry got fired form MSNBC.

I speaking to how stewart in the last years of his show did a lazy brand of comedy. He would say something than then put on a face and his audience would laugh. Oreilly has sided with the other side on things 100 times more than stewart ever did. And like on of the posters in here said, when asked a hard question he would just make a joke and say that he is just a comedian.

Oreilly may be a blowhard but he and everyone else knew where he stood, steawart always feel back on I'm just a comedian calling out the ridiculous, even though that calling out was hardly ever on the liberal side.

So you can't find comedy in someone calling out your side, is that the problem?
Stewart used satire to make fun of politics and mostly against the GOP, big deal. He was very good at using 10 minutes to cover what the insane media took 24 hours to run through the meat grinder. The Daily Show was on the Comedy Network, should be a dead giveaway for the people who think he should have been held to some kind of standards for political reporting. Although you have to admit he did a better job with satire and research than most political shows did, thats why he was always making fun of Fox News, because Fox never did worry about facts.

Of course if you are a staunch conservative you will say "smug" Stewart, or "smug" Oliver, thats because they make valid points when politics gets so fucking ridiculous. You could say they were saying it like it was (with comedy), strangely enough when Trump apparently does it with no comedy, he's suddenly Reagan with a bad wig. One of the best things Stewart ever did was make a fool out of the most smug creep on TV (Tucker bow tie Carlson), his bow tie was removed shortly after Stewart worked him over, his show was also over shortly after.

O'reilly the registered independent ..... hahahah

No, I asked if he took the debate serious since I can't see the video right now. I wanted to know if he made actual points or if he just bullshitted his way through it making funny faces and jokes. My side can and should be made fun of when it does stupid things. I have no problem making fun of my own side, I do about abortion and gay marriage all the time.

My comment was more about Stewart and his lazy brand of comedy he took on his last couple years of his show.

Republican said this...whaaaatttttttttt... (as he bends down and stares in to the camera all wide eyed).

And then when he gets called on his bias, "hey man, Im just a comedian making jokes"

Exactly. He called Carlson and his liberal counterpart hacks and when he's called out for the same thing, he says his show comes on before Crank Yankers. As if Stewart doesn't take his job seriously and if that's a genuine excuse for being hypocritical.

Watch at 20:00. Stewart claims a surplus under Clinton to be the same as zero national debt.
