Only in the UFC do the skills of journeymen like Stephens get inflated so much.

If this guy was in Bellator everyone would call him a journey man bum. The guy has 15 losses and is spoken of as some elite FW with good skills when in reality has has always been an average fighter at best. He gets on the mic and talks like hes the best thing since sliced bread and that hes going to take Aldo's soul and bla bla bla. STFU bro you got 15 losses, have some respect for legendary fighters like Aldo. This is what the UFC encourages. The over inflation and over hyping of journey man bums with 15 losses and the constant disrespect of legends like Fedor, Nog, Aldo etc.

For this reason it was absolute delight to watch Aldo punch a hole and Stephens' liver sending him back down to the undercard where he belongs. Hopefully next time he will have some respect for the legends.

It's not about his overall record, it's more about how he had performed in his recent fight, which was very well.

You know who else has a shit record?

BJ Penn.

Yep, overall record is pretty irrelevant. All that matters is now. Stephens may not be elite but he's legit top 10.

Agaisnt sub-par competition in Choi and Emmett. I can't believe Shertards has he audacity to say Aldo was on a decline just because he lost to a better fighter in Holloway.

WTF Did you see his body? The man clearly came in with a debilitating injury.

Emmet, Choi and Melendez were all pretty solid wins I was more expecting him to lose than win except Choi because he wss so hittable. Thought Emmet and Melendez could've wrestled him down considering Holloway, Oliveira and Bermudez before the knee all did.

True. When over a dozen people have figured you out enough to beat you (closer to 15 really) , then that’s hardly the quality of an elite fighter.

All his record means is that he's been fighting high level competition since early in his career.

I'd rather see a guy be 30-12 and 35 of his fights are against high level competition in the UFC/WEC/Strikeforce/Pride/etc than a guy who's 20-0 but got his record padded crushing cans and goes 0-3 during his UFC run and gets a pink slip 14 months later.

I'm not picking on Gaethje too. It just sounds like it. I'm not though.

If he was in Bellator he'd probably be a double division champion.

You can hate Stephens all you want but don't pretend like he isn't an elite fighter.

TS is a fucking pos. To call Stephens a journeyman, okay, but to call him a bum is extremely weak. So fuck you, pos.

Technique will always beat Stephens.

Records only tell part of the story. He was definitely shaping up to be in contention.

Stephens is really good, and really fun to watch....His skills are not inflated whatsoever....

He reminds me of Robbie Lawler very much...Especially how his career seems to be trending. He keeps getting better. No fucking shame in losing to Aldo.

Certainly you may not consider him top 5, but you definitely can make a case for top 10. Also he was doing pretty decent against Aldo before he took that liver shot. I don't see any reason to take anything away from these guys.
