One Championship: Truly Different?

before one fc i think mma was illegal in thailand. sounds crazy to think of now

No UFC was on regular TV Channel 8 here in Thailand then started getting very popular so some politic worked to get it banned calling it a blood sport and a affront to Muay Thai causing UFC to lose it's regular TV spot. As UFC got accepted more in the world they gave in and stopped fighting over UFC it is now on a cable channel but lost its momentum and still people quote the politicians calling it a blood sport. But UFC has a loyal following here. One tried to make a move in Thailand and failed despite the fact they used the ploy of being part of the ASEAN pact the 10 countries including Singapore that agreed to put each others products first over the rest of the world.

One Championships is NOT accepted in Thailand. It is untrusted even the USA bloodsport UFC is more accepted. Muay Thai is the king's sport and tourneys by the government are trusted but One isn't. Stamp has a small following including me but we do not consider her UFC level.

On the surface, One Championship certainly appears to be the antithesis of the “entertainment” style of MMA. Representing what Sityodtong calls “authentic martial arts,” One has been making a push with the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts to get MMA into the Olympics. One athletes are said to be taken care of by the company, with lightweight legend Eddie Alvarez reporting that he was treated better by One after he lost than when he held the title in the UFC. In the “About Us” section of One Championship’s website, the first thing at the top of the page are the words “Integrity, humility, honor, respect, courage, discipline, compassion” in big, bold letters.

After a few years, how do you think One FC has lived up to its lofty goals? In 2018, Adriano Moraes got his split decision loss overturned after Cui/Chatri/Hume intervened. Maybe the level of local judging needs alot of improvement, probably face the same problems the UFC had with former boxing judges who underscored score leg kick or the grappling portions of the fights.

one championship has superior rules

Minus the upkick not being allowed....

It makes no sense you are fighting gravity yet cant kick someone in the face who is in your guard while you are on your back YET you can 12 to 6 elbow them, knee in the head, jump on them body first etc while they are on their back

an organization with some principles and integrity would certainly get my money over and above the ufc. it would be refreshing to thing i was supporting something other than pure corporate greed

Might be moving to South East Asia for a while, so I guess it's probably time to get into One FC. Is Rich Franklin still associated with One? Was he ever a player or was he more of an ambassador / figure head?

Sounds great. I like it.
On July 12, One Championship founder and CEO Chatri Sityodtong was interviewed by The Daily about the MMA promotion’s upcoming plans for expansion inside the United States. The topics discussed included One’s broadcast media rights deal with Turner Sports, when the organization will host an event on U.S. soil, and how the company differentiates itself from the Ultimate Fighting Championship. But what is driven home in every answer given by Sityodtong during the interview is a clear message -- One Championship is what real martial arts is all about.

“We do believe that our formula is 180 degrees opposite from anything that exists in the U.S. market in terms of combat sports … One Championship builds heroes, much like the Olympics,” Sityodtong said. “We want the best athletes in the world, but we also want heroes outside of the cage. We are looking to tell their stories of triumph over adversity to inspire the world … Everything is done in an honorable and respectable way that has human dignity.”

That’s certainly a different vision than the one held by the UFC. Though the bouts themselves are sport, the UFC often rewards exciting, charismatic fighters who trash talk over those who fail to put on a show. Questionable matchmaking is generally justified by UFC President Dana White as “what the fans want to see” regardless of how lucrative it is for the promotion, or else it is justified with reference to a ranking system that has its fair shares of flaws. The UFC isn’t shy when it comes to putting entertainment value above merit, and the only heroes in their book are the ones who bring in a million-plus pay-per-view buys.

How successful is One Championship actually?

they have the highest user interaction of any sport on the Facebook/Meta video platforms.

One FC does a really great job building up and promoting their female fighters. Much better than the UFC. The Lee's, Fairtex's and all of their Chinese female fighters are much more exciting to watch and follow than any of the UFC female athletes.

also, the fact that they are not just MMA matches also Muay Thai and flo grappling sets them apart. once they get Gordon Ryan going it will be interesting to watch.

Rich Franklin does ringside commentary during the larger events.

And I don't mind either announcer. The Aussie guy kind of reminds me of Mike Goldberg from the old UFC days.

Why did they do that
Both fighters should stomp and kick awhile both grounded like dream fc.

MMA is inconsistent.
