yeah I think Marat would do ok in MT, the small gloves would certainly be in his favour
Offensively perhaps yes, Muay Matt style would be friendly.

Defensively not, 80% of the time he used the high // guard. Would get pierced by elbows in muay-thai, and even in kickboxing their could be holes with the high // guard itself.

True, good points

This is definitely a card that I will not miss.
Been keeping an eye on that one for a while now, hoping that none of the big fights get scrapped...

The main event itself would have made me watch it live, Takeru vs Rodtang is huge, but the entire card is filled with bangers.

You guys have already talked about all the great muay thai & kickboxing bouts we're getting, but even the MMA bouts got me pumped up, and they're buried dep in the card like they were some random match-ups between beginners ^^

That's how you know a card is stacked...

For the vacant BW belt, Ryo "Piranha" Chonan's protégé, Yuya "Lil Piranha" Wakamatsu vs Adriano "Mikinho" Moraes having a rematch is a pretty cool match-up.
The Japanese Pancrase & ONE veteran vs the Brazilian Shooto former champ & ONE FW & BW former champ, who became Mighty Mouse's post UFC rival over 3 fights, going 1-2 against the former UFC mega-champ.

Before that we have a tetralogy fight, 2 former ONE LW champions ducking it out once more, Shinya Aoki & the Filipino Wushu gold medalist Eduardo "Landslide" Foyaland having another classic grappler vs striker match-up.

Aoki won 2 of their fights via submission, and Eduardo won his via TKO... since their last fight that Aoki won, I caught Eduardo's Muai Thay victory over the legendary Australian "Gunslinger" John Wayne Parr (sure he's old a fuck, but still)
followed by his MMA victory KO over Amir Khan <mma4>

On his side, Aoki's last MMA fight was a badass openweight submission win over John Lineker
(who's also on the card in a kickboxing bout against Kyokushin's prodigy Hiroki Akimoto, the former ONE kickboxing BW champion, will be nice to watch that one too)
which got him POTN.

He's also been active in grappling competition, losing more than when he was in his prime, but to be faaAaIr it's not like he's getting sub'd by scrubs either.

Aoki could obviously sub him again, but Foyaland is dangerous enough on the feet, and has an interesting style that still makes it dangerous for to survive long enough to take him down.

But first, the only beginner vs beginner MMA bout of the night, between the younger brother of ONE WW & MW champion Christian "The Warrior" Lee, the 19 years old from Hawai
Adrian "The Phenom" Lee (2-0)

But I'm not sure who he is fighting?
Both Sherdog & Tapology still have him fight at LW and taking on undefeated Lightweight Shozo Isojima (5-0), but other sources including ONE's official website claim that Shozo is injured, and that the fight is now against replacement Welterweight Takeharu Ogawa (3-0 in MMA, but also a bunch of fights in kickboxing and boxing)...

Could be a much harder fight that his initial opponent, Ogawa is bigger than the original opponent (Shozo is a LW, Ogawa a WW) stronger, and has a LOT of experience against a bunch of veterans, could be a wake up call for the younger Lee sibling...

Anyway, this is the kind of card I love, not a single dud from start to finish, should be a fun night on Sherdog's PBP thread <mirkoice>

Cheers mates!

Sorry for the !bump and quoting my own post, but earlier today ONE championship confirmed on their official twitter account that since Shozo is injured, the 19 years old Adrian Lee (Christian's younger brother) will indeed instead face fellow MMA noob (but experienced kickboxer) Takeharu Ogawa

Wikipedia has the updated card, but since Sherdog & Tapology still have Lee facing Isojima Shozo, I figured I'd try to attract someone's attention here ^^'

Anyway, since it's one of the 3 MMA bouts of the cards, I figured I'd draw some attention to it.
Lee vs Ogawa should be a good test for the younger Lee brother.

This card is insanely stacked, and is taking place just one day after the London UFC Fight Night card headlined by Leon Edwards vs Sean Brady, another card that is surprisingly dense despite not being a "numbered" event...

Despite the original match-up having fell through (Leon vs Jack Della Maddalena), what we're getting is still a pretty sweet main event, striker vs grappler match-up at the highest level.

Jan Blachowicz vs Carlos Ulberg being only the co-main on a Fight Night card is a pretty good sign IMO. <5>

Gunnar Nelson vs Kevin Holland is another solid one, maybe it's because I'm not following the UFC as closely as I used to, and I don't realize that some of these guys aren't as popular as they used to or that their primes are long behind, but that's another bout that could have easily be a co-main on a FN back when McGregor had all of UK rooting for "Gunni"

Plus other big names & interesting prospects, but if I get started... >< Aaaanyway, I'm not here to talk about the UFC ^^'
Just happy that we're getting those 2 cards 2 days in a row, that's all.
Should be a good couple PBP threads \o/

Why is the tawanchai fight for the interim belt? Is he not the champ?

He's the champ in Muay Thai, but that one is for the vacant kickboxing title.
So if Tawanchai wins, he'll be double champ I guess?
But in 2 combat sports in the same org instead of the usual "champ in 2 weight classes"
Oh shit. What happened to Chingiz?

Oh shit. What happened to Chingiz?
Oof, that was a whole mini-saga, he hasn't fought since August 2023 when he defended his belt for the second time against prime Grigorian, who was 14-2 in his last 8, only lost to eternal rival Sittichai via split decision (a loss he avenged) + Superbon (whom he had defeated before) during that run.

Because of his inactivity, he was stripped of the belt => https://beyondkick.com/news/superbo...g-champion-chingiz-allazov-stripped-of-title/

He seems to be done with ONE in general, he isn't happy for whatever reason, probably wants to fight for... mayb Glory? The LW champion there is Tyjani Beztati, the Wonderboy from the Netherlands. It would be a good match-up, Chingiz would be the favorite but not by too much I assume

Or K-1? It's not like he has a bunch of choice... I'd be happy to see him in Karate Combat <scurred> but the salary would be different... or BKFC <bringit>hey, last year they managed to put Buakaw vs Saenchai together in Thailand with bare knuckle muay thai rules, that was a pretty nice move.

it's no longer "kinda shameful" to resort to BKFC to put food on the table and isn't just for "a quick buck getting mauled by Platinum Perry after your prime is over" anymore.

It's becoming legit!

Anyway...
After 17 months of inactivity, Chingiz Allazov has been stripped of his title.
ONE Championship has officially announced that Superbon has been elevated to ONE Featherweight Kickboxing Champion, confirming that Chingiz Allazov has been stripped of the title. Fans had anticipated this move, given Allazov’s inactivity throughout 2024, with his last fight taking place in August 2023 against Marat Grigorian.

Superbon, who claimed the interim belt in April with a decision victory over Grigorian, has been alternating between Muay Thai and kickboxing in recent months. His next challenge will be against Tawanchai for the featherweight Muay Thai title at ONE 170 later this month
Tensions between Allazov and ONE have been well-documented, with the former champion stating that he and the promotion are "not on the same path."

Officially, his contract with ONE runs through December 2026, but being stripped of the title might suggest a shift in the dynamics between the two. "I left [the title] a long time ago. When I need it, I’ll come and take it. Good luck to everyone," Allazov posted on social media.

The original statement I was giving you shit for: "Akimoto has ran through nobody" is objectively wrong. You obviously must know this since you haven't even offered a rebuttal, so you shifted the conversation to a betting favorite in an upcoming bout that has nothing to do with what we're talking about, as if that proves something. Feel free to keep going on about how you definitely know what you're talking about despite offering nothing of value to the conversation
As I correctly predicted, the betting line for Lineker vs Akimoto is currently dead even odds.

Since you're so confident Akimoto should run through Lineker, you should be betting the farm on Akimoto.

These were my exact words from my orginal comment regarding their fight
On paper, Akimoto should run through Lineker

Akimoto could fight literally anyone else and it would be more interesting, I couldn't care less about a MMA fighter trying his hand in Kickboxing.
I don't know how I can make it more clear that I don't care for the matchup because a Kickboxer fighting an MMA fighter, on paper, is a bad matchup; the entire comment is about ONE's bad matchmaking. Additionally, in the event that Akimoto wins, it doesn't do anything for him career-wise or in terms of moving up the ladder in ONE. You keep using betting lines as some sort of litmus test for how much you know about the sport, but again, I was giving you shit for saying saying that Akimoto has ran through nobody. You still haven't attempted to defend that statement, you just keep trying to shift the conversation to betting lines. All you have demonstrated is that you have your head in your ass, you have not displayed any knowledge of the sport. Have fun with your gambling

I’m IN although at that 3am start time I imagine there wont be many in the U.S. watching.

LFG Takeru

Fight nights where they're not at the APEX usually have 2 or 3 fights that could be featured on PPVs.

also, did someone seriously say Nabil fighting for the title is dumb because he lost to Superlek already? He was 18 when he lost and is like 7-0 since then. Some of the criticisms about ONE's bookings are silly.

The kickboxing title isn't vacant. Superbon is the one kickboxing champ at the weight (was promoted from interim champ after Allazov was stripped).

It's a pretty weird situation, since Tawanchai just crushed Superbon and Noiri lost 2 out of his last 3 fights. Still an interesting fight.

This article clears some things up:

"Chief among the announcements was a fight between Tawanchai PK Saenchai and Masaaki Noiri, both fresh off victories at ONE 170 last week in Bangkok, for the ONE interim featherweight kickboxing title on March 23 at Saitama Super Arena.

ONE chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong said the winner would face Superbon in a title unification bout. Featherweight champion Superbon was unable to compete on the card because he was knocked out by ONE featherweight Muay Thai champ Tawanchai last week, Chatri said."

In my previous post I did specify that Superbon was supposedly the champ because Chingiz pretty much retired:
("ONE Championship has officially announced that Superbon has been elevated to ONE Featherweight Kickboxing Champion, confirming that Chingiz Allazov has been stripped of the title.") but his recent loss by KO complicated things.
...

The whole thing is kind of a mess for now <seniorvolk>

But with the official poster, which has the correct opponent for Adrian Lee, so it must be recent, insisting that it was for the interim FW KB title, I gave up and assumed someone was a mistake with the weight classes somewhere ^^'
Because depending where you look, Tapology, wikipedia, the official ONE website, people seem to talk about FW & LW like they were interchangeable.

Lots of people use Tapology to properly follow these cards, and they list the bout between Tawanchai & Noiri as the kickboxing "ONE Interim Lightweight Championship"

But clearly on this poster, they have Tawanchai vs Masaaki Noiri fight for the "Interim Featherweight KB World Championship"

The official website for ONE also has it as FW => https://www.onefc.com/events/one172/
Which doesn't stop them from listing Superbon as the FW KB champ => https://www.onefc.com/athletes/superbon/

What a mess

Let's wait and see until they sort that out ^^'
RF

the twanchai vs noiri fight is at 70kg/ 154lb. Which is featherweight in one fc. the issue is one fc shifted all their weight classes up 10lbs from traditional mma/kb weight classes in their effort to "stop weight cutting". This fight taking place in Glory or UFC at the same weight would be in the lightweight divison but one fc calls it featherweight

I can't believe no one's talking about this weekend's card! Rodtang! Tawachai! Superlek! Phetjeeja! Sinya Aoki!

EDIT: if I'm doing the time zone conversion properly, it'll start Sunday at 3:00AM EDT? WTF?
