PBP Takeru vs Rodtang is set for ONE 172 in Tokyo, March 23

Finally! It only took three or four years of Takeru and Rodtang calling each other out haha. Anyway, I think Rodtang takes it. They're both very clever and very sharp, but I've seen Takeru go down many times before -- I've only seen Rodtang go down once, and it took Superlek to do it. They have two common opponents in Tenshin and Superlek, and Takeru was beaten handily by both, where Rodtang had a close fight with both men despite losing as well. Stylistically, this will make for a very exciting match up, but Rodtang has the edge in skill and toughness. Hard to see Takeru find a way around that when his path to victory looks about the same as Rodtang's.

Interesting view. When I first thought about the match-up, I would tend to favour Takeru in Kickboxing rules with the big boxing gloves, while if it were Kickboxing in the 4oz gloves I'd 100% favour Rodtang. Your analysis also makes sense though. That's why I think it's a good match-up, I don't think the winner is that obvious ahead of the fight.
 
I love Rodtang but I worry he is getting a case of Marvin Hagler silk pajama syndrome from too much success. I am sure some old farang like me in the US burbs cheering hard for him is so beyond what he could have imagined coming up.

I agree, I also think both guys were in slightly better form a few years ago as well. I'm happy the fight is scheduled at least, and hopefully it comes to fruition.

Yeah, sadly the sport has kind of fizzled out for me over the last few years. I check things out here and there, not religiously like I used to. I miss the Golden Age.

Same here. I used to watch every event live more or less, but now the talent is too spread across several organisations making most of cards a bit dull, especially after over 20 years of watching Kickboxing. I still enjoy MT eventw like the RWS cards though and catch up on the fights from One and Glory that I'm curious about if not live.

Call me a heretic but I actually tend to watch UFC events live more often than kickboxing ones. At least the talent is a lot more centered and the sport is booming with talent.
 
It's hard to sell a fight twice. I'll be hyped when they're both in the ring at this point. Let's just hope it happens this time

Takeru is a big star in Japan. And Rodtang is famous worldwide, both have fought Nasukawa.
They will be just fine, Chatri is going to make some damn good money, and we are going to be entertained.

I'll get hyped when they're both in the ring at this point. Can't trust One to follow through on a fight when they book it so far out. Plus Superlek beat both now

Gonna be a legendary fight like Superlek vs Rodtang 1. Takeru will be dangerous but I still think rodtang counters the shit out of him.

The more a fight is postponed and talked about, the more it is going to sell. The perfect example is Floyd against Pacquiao.

One just have to hope and pray a fight actually happens. Rodtang said he won't pull out again

 
For casual viewers, saying Superlek "beat" Rodtang is a bit of a stretch. It was a pretty even fight. No shine lost on Rodtang imo
