Official Women's Division Discussion #27

The one thing I dislike about the Phoenix tournaments is how only the final gets counted as an official fight. The only person to finish the night with a worse record was Van Zandt, which strikes me as unfair, especially when most people set so much store by that win-loss headline figure.

The first tournament all the fights in the bracket counted. I guess enough of the fighters complained about a loss on their record from a 5 minute fight that all subsequent tournaments have been exhibitions except for the final. Same thing happened to Guardado. Started her career 0-1 because of it

I agree. Either they all count or they are all don't count. It makes no sense for the worse placing to be second place.

Nah, Shannon said in an interview that all the fights counted because a title was on the line.

Viktoriya Dudakova is really fucking good imo. Looked good again today against a much more experienced opponent.

she certainly has a great deal of WGOAT familial resemblence (moreso than some actual family :p)

The ladies are taking it to bare knuckle mma now:

This had to be the least entertaining Phoenix Series yet.
1&2 had interesting high level matches and 3 had a bunch of newer fighter batter each other.
This was 6 low skilled girls thrown at 2 with experience well beyond them, to the obvious LVZ vs Delboni final. The quarter finals were like watching murder. Question for everyone who says this division is amazing if atomweight is supposed to be ufc ready why can't Invicta find more then 2 for a title eliminator tournament?

I think most of the atomweights are in One FC

And just like that, Joanne Calderwood has lost to everyone ranked ahead of her: Andrade, Chookagian, Murphy, Maia, and Calvillo. What's funny is that she'll be right back in title contention with a win over anyone.

Andrade vs Calvillo, Maia vs Eye, Calderwood vs Araujo. Whoever losses another one, should fight down the rankings and defend their spot. Guess what else is funny? The brave ones taking fights with real potential at changing the division's standings, are Chookagian and Modafferi. They'll fight anyone, so fights with Grasso (Roxy), and Lee (Katlyn) are more likely to happen.

Bit surprised in both the lady fight decision tonight also that 1st heavyweight fight I has all 3 loser.
Anyways happy to see Kianzad win even if I had her dropping 2 and 3. I got the best opponent win or lose give her Aldana next.

Looked like an easy jojo 1&3, but give Lauren her title fight she's going to look like Eye there.

The crazy thing is so many of those 125 fighters would have really tight bouts with one another- Maia, Chookagian, Jo Jo, Calvillo, Murphy all match up with one another in a way where I could see any of them beating the other in a close fight on any given night.

Yet Valentina would dominate any of them.

For the life of me I don't understand the Eye vs Maia fight. What's the point, does anyone want to see them rematched with Valentina? Oh and then they stick it on a Conor card, almost as if they're trolling the customers. They should be fighting prospects, not each other.

There was two ladyfights on the card? I had completely missed the Kianziad/Davis and as more important sports are going on now, and Danish guys are keeling over dead (and then resurrected) on the field, I only took a break from post match brews etc. to watch Calderwood/Murphy (boo, judges, boo!), which was quite enjoyable in rounds 1&3 and had wrestling in round 2. :P Judges aside, not bad. Checked some of the other main card fights this morning.

Anyway, Jessica Rose Clark seems to be on some weird pro-Hans Moleman crusade of late:

Just an example, she did a pro-hans rant in her insta stories too, or another post. Anyway, weird. Fishing for a bonus Monster, no doubt.

I can't knock her hustle. She must be doing something right. She went from saying she was broke to having an extra 10k to spend on a boob job.

Not a fan of CSA. One size fits all coaching.

Me neither, Jessica Eye lost her last two fights, she should be fighting DOWN and putting younger people over, and they should've rebooked Maia vs Araujo. How can Maverick, Santos, and Grasso move up the rankings, if the only women willing to fight them are Roxane Modaferi and Katlyn Chookagian? And if they somehow beat Katlyn, they're booked for a beatdown against Valentina afterwards.

Regardless, I still believe Maia vs Eye won't happen, as they booked it 3-4 months in advance, one of them is eventually getting injured or testing positive for covid.

Invicta
Glad the show ran smoothly after production problems on their axs debut. Phoenix tourney's a nice change of pace. Delboni & Van Zandt both fun to watch. Delboni's trophy was nearly bigger than her. Bring on Zappatella.

UFC
Murphy - Calderwood. Though I had Jo Jo winning, neither appeared able to do much more than point fight.
Kianzad - Davis. More entertaining for me. Interested in seeing who they'll match Kianzad up with next.
