@Eater of Souls do you have a take on the fight yet? Have you seen much of both fighters?

Okay, I think Eggers has better "pure" grappling but from what I have seen so far she has not made the transition to MMA quite as well as some other grapplers. Cortez appears to apply her skill set a bit better but is probably at a distinct size disadvantage.
Probably turns into a shitty striking match so it may just be a toss-up.

Or not.

Anyone who has trained or coached athletes: it blows my mind that fighters are often completely in the dark about the talents of their opponents going into a fight. Few other sports operate that way.

When I played soccer we wanted to know how good our opponents were - all their strengths and weaknesses - before a game. We weren't happy if we were blindsided during the match. Like 'Why didn't anyone tell us they have that left-footed phenom who scored the goal on us?'

I'm a believer in Tracy Cortez. In both of her fights in the ufc, her wrestling just looked so crisp, and she did it both times being the much smaller fighter. She doesn't look like she has bad hands either, meaning she's not slow or totally lost standing. It will be interesting to see her at flyweight. It makes that division pretty exciting and kind of underrated. I feel like she's like Brianna Van Buren, good athlete, good wrestling, decent hands, but just lacking size.

I think Cortez was saying that she knew Egger was a black belt in judo but was not aware of her black belt in bjj. So is Egger a bjj black belt? When I was looking her up before the fight I saw bjj sites saying Stephanie was a blue belt going into the Gabi contestant.

So I'm not surprised at Tracy's surprise, there's a lot of half truths about belts and the status of titles in mma.

If she is it was not exactly obvious going off of last night's performance.
