Official Women's Division Discussion #25

Just out of curiosity is there much of a scene for women's featherweights
at this point in the US or Internationally because I like the division when
Invicta books it but it doesn't seem like that there is not enough fighters
globally to fill it unless it debutants.

No.

Not really there's soo few women who are that size in mma and can't cut to 135 even if 145 is a better fighting size for them. The UFC kind of killed the 145 division with pushing everyone into 135 for Ronda.

As far as Kaufman vs Avila goes that fight won't happen till March because
Julia Avila is facing more time in a cast do to a surgically repaired thumb
that was broken at Invicta FC 32 November 16th.

Kinda weird that the UFC is promoting sister-on-sister violence with Andrea Lee vs Ash Lee, especially on the heels of their brother Kevin taking a tough loss.

Good thing their younger sister Angela is safe fighting with ONE FC!

You're too verbose. ELI5.

I posted the math about how bad the division is multiple times. When a division has a lower winning percentage fighting women who have moved up from 135 than those who have always fought at 145, well, that says all you need to know.

I know I was just joking. No fights this weekend. Feeling slap happy.

Most are favoring Cyborg versus Nunes rightfully so. I like Nunes & will be rooting for her. What must Nunes do well to win? Hope it's an exciting fight & both go for a finish. They've been fighting more cautiously of late. Can it be be a barnburner? Or more likely an uneventful decision? And why?

Well, Cyborg has never had a cardio issue. Of course, she has rarely gone the distance. Nunes has had cardio issues and has also gone the distance. Amanda's best chance is to finish it quick, but that is far easier said that done. She has better footwork and probably better grappling. She is, like every WMMA fighter that is actually human, giving away size and strength to Cyborg, which limits her in the grappling dept. So while Amanda has a more polished game, Cyborg has enough skill, more strength and a much better gas tank.

Given that Amanda has better footwork and uses distance pretty well, I would have her pressure Cyborg the first round and see how that goes. Cris has never had to fight off of her back foot, and this should take away some of her power. Given that Holly did well in the clinch, I would say Amanda will win the clinch war until she gasses. So if she pressures Cyborg and hurts/wears her down early she has a chance. The longer the fight lasts, the more it favors Cyborg, unless ATT has worked a miracle and improved her gas tank.

I really want Amanda to win, but I think Cris gets it done. I would be fine with being wrong here.

I've heard it suggested that fighting at 145 lbs instead of 135 lbs might, in itself, improve Amanda's gas tank.

Could be, which is why I am not counting her out. This is basically a contest between one fighter being more skilled and the other have better physical attributes.
