Official Women's Division Discussion #25

Yea, I also had no idea why she was turning the fight down just from reading the tweet. So I looked more into it. I pointed out the inaccuracy in the health reasons excuse because with this article we now probably know the real reason why.

My main takeaway is that she is making bad business decisions. Her vs Katlyn probably would have been a title eliminator and a winnable fight. Trying to fight Antonina does nothing for her career. Ashlee might not get injured meaning she wasted 3 months. Even if she does beat Antonina it will not advance her career since it would be Antonina's debut in the UFC. If she wanted to get revenge on Valentina she was a few pounds away from getting the chance of doing just that.

The trainer quote Sept. 10 appears a 'heat of the moment' comment. The September 27 tweet doesn't specify if there was an offer by the UFC to Nicco for December.

If Valentina wins the belt, any girl who wants to be fasttracked to a title shot should call out Antonina, whose grappling is still not that tested. The storyline is there for the taking. "I'll ruin the Shevchenko family", "they will talk about me in every family reunion" etc.

I didn't see this in the thread but Jaimee Nievera pulled out of the fight with Mazo yesterday. So if you were about to tune in to LFA to watch Sabina, dont bother. She ain't fightin'.

Super Mely does it again get this girl some actual competition

Curious to see how Keri Melendez looks tonight in Bellator. She seems to have good striking and power, but might be somewhat small if she moves up to 125 in the future.

The only way that Nicco Montano should be allowed a title
shot when she returns is win a minimum of two fights which
is about what it will take now and absolutely no overweights
during that timeframe.

She need at least 1 victory over 1-3 ranked, so called gatekeeper. I think UFC did really bad when making champion the way they did to Nicco, She didn't have enough experience, enough fights, enough tough competition.

It seems like they want Nicco to fight the lesser Shevchenko sister. Antonina fights November 30th so you saying its because of health reasons that she can't fight Katlyn in December does not seem to be accurate.

Shevchenko sister needs to have enough high ranking that it would make any difference of Nicco having any kind of championship fight. The fact that she is Valentina's sister should not matter, only rankings should. It doesn't matter what is Valentinas ranking or is she the champion, her sister needs to build his own resume by herself. After that victory over her would make something difference for Nicco. Beating nobody who is Valentina's sister doesn't make Nicco anything. And I know I didn't check all the details about the sister's resume, but she needs to have ranking at 125 before so called former champ would WANT to have a fight against her.

So Arlene has cemented herself another title shot in impressive fashion. The fight was great had it split 1-1 going into the third.

It was a gnarly slam, ala vintage "modaferri as a victim"

First of all, i was wrong about Hamasaki, the few boring fights she had in Invicta do not speak for her entire career, which had some great showings, e.g that fight against Kurobe.

That said, with that strong performance i think it's time to stop the ridiculous narrative that she's washed up/fading, hence, no, Hamderlei is not the #1 atomweight in the world, at least not until she beats Hamasaki.
Rankings should always rely on fight results, on competition, not on subjective opinions using fantasy matchmaking.

Agreed. Garcia gave her a tough time but Garcia gives everyone a tough time, she's just a bulldog whose record doesn't reflect it. Very impressive performance by Hamasaki.

Melissa Gatto got a first round kimura win of her own over Karol Rosa at Nacao Cyborg 3 last night. If I'm not mistaken she plans to move down to flyweight so I wouldn't be surprised to see her fighting overseas soon. She's now 6-0-2.

Also on the card: Daniela Silva (7-2-0) def. Maria Ribeiro (4-1-0) via anaconda choke and Aline Pires (2-1-0) def. Clades Zimmermann (0-1-0) via armbar, both also in the first round.

Some sharp striking by Melendez last night, but you could tell she is really early in her MMA career and needs a lot of development. Zimmerman did not make the victory easy for her.

Great, I'll highlight this to recommend to all the people who ignored you to begin with, that they should now reconsider :p

Ayaka looked a little bigger than Mina and also had harder competition since DEEP JEWELS rarely brings in international talent. The thing with Ayaka is she is having a tough time traveling between the Japan and the US, and is taking some wear and tear on her body. Why she signed with Rizin and won't fight in the US anytime soon.

She stated she would like to face Kanna Asakura, which I hope doesn't happen until next year. Kanna still needs to grow as a fighter and gain some experience.

Sierra Seifert with a nasty head kick KO in an amateur muay thai bout this past weekend

Yeah, awesome performance by Hamasaki. Is it fair to call that finish a kamura? I want to make sure I'm using the appropriate term.

Miyuu Yamamoto also won at Rizin this weekend. A unanimous decision over Andy Nguyen and was clearly overcome with emotion. For those who may not realize, Miyuu is Kid Yamamotos older sister. Kid passed away a couple of weeks ago after a battle with cancer. Also check out Andy Nguyens walkout. The announcers said she spent more time practicing it than training and it showed.

Also Suicide Girl Micol Di Segni won a split decision over 19 year old Cory McKenna in Cage Warriors. It was a good, competitive fight. I'm glad on a personal note, as I can't NOT root for a Suicide Girl.
