Official Women's Division Discussion #25

Valentina (in a non malicious manner) saying Joanna was only able to win championships in Muay Thai because she moved up from 57 to 60 kg:

Three women’s fights Friday night at KOTC.

Also:

And

<{jackyeah}>

Finally, more singlet action from Liana Jojia and her training partner Diana Avsaragova for @Mittens

So does Google know something we don't or is it living in the past?

Also reminder Super Mely is back in action at Combates Friday night - English telecast on Dazn and Spanish for free on Univision Deportes

Ye Ji Lee and Young Ji Kim of Road FC will apparently be on a tv show next week:

Seems Gillian Robertson’s arm wasn’t hurt to badly this past weekend.

This came out awhile ago. It was just a mistake from the UFC's crappy website. UFC 230 is in NY and Joanna vs Rose was in NY so for some reason that fight popped back up on the card. It was confirmed to be a mistake almost instantly. I mean the website still had Roxy and I think Larissa Pacheco on the roster even when they had been cut for at least a few years. Rose has been out from her last fight with a neck injury so there was no way this fight was ever booked.

Yep, Pacheco .... and even some who never made it to the UFC. By the way, in reference to your post about fighters being older than people think, Larissa was just 24 a couple of weeks ago. I was tipping both her and Chiasson to do well in tuf but now they'll have to fight each other in the first round.

This confused me for a while but it's an excuse to post this great picture of a disappointed Gillian after her fight.

Ah, I meant wasn’t. Fixed.

Tamikka Brents is returning after over a year away from MMA, last fight was a loss to Sarah Patterson. She's fighting at bantamweight for the title here against Brenda Gonzalez:

Also on that card is Jessica Middleton vs. Calie Cutler for the flyweight title.

Apparently Nicco turned down Katlyn for a fight in December. If she is not going to be ready to fight by December they did the correct thing in stripping her of the title.

You mean after she went through Renal shutdown a few weeks ago? I can imagine she might still be in recovery mode.

Yu-Ri Shim vs. So-Hee Lim. Shim is a Muay Thai stylist, likes to throw knees in the clinch. "Wushu Princess" So Hee Lim took most of year off to compete in Shootboxxing, where she went 1-1 with MIO, RENA's BFF. Should be an all stand-up affair.

The only way that Nicco Montano should be allowed a title
shot when she returns is win a minimum of two fights which
is about what it will take now and absolutely no overweights
during that timeframe.

Evidently her not wanting the fight has nothing to do with health problems. Her coach said

"October, she’s already going out (to the Performance Institute). Then we’re going back for the belt,” Vaughn said. “To tell you the truth, we wouldn’t mind Nicco fighting Valentina’s sister – beat her up, then go back for Valentina. We’re going to try to have Nicco ready in case her sister’s opponent drops out. We’re going to be ready.”

It seems like they want Nicco to fight the lesser Shevchenko sister. Antonina fights November 30th so you saying its because of health reasons that she can't fight Katlyn in December does not seem to be accurate.

Well that tells a a lot more to the story than a tweet, and yousaying that they were right to strip her for not wanting to fight.

Yea, I also had no idea why she was turning the fight down just from reading the tweet. So I looked more into it. I pointed out the inaccuracy in the health reasons excuse because with this article we now probably know the real reason why.

My main takeaway is that she is making bad business decisions. Her vs Katlyn probably would have been a title eliminator and a winnable fight. Trying to fight Antonina does nothing for her career. Ashlee might not get injured meaning she wasted 3 months. Even if she does beat Antonina it will not advance her career since it would be Antonina's debut in the UFC. If she wanted to get revenge on Valentina she was a few pounds away from getting the chance of doing just that.

I agree with fighting a hook being good, but so would fighting Antonine, who is coming in with a lot of hype dude to being Val’s sister, and it also creates a story line.

Remember, Bethe got a title shot for beating 2/4 horsefaces.
