Official Women's Division Discussion #25

On the Hardy tip - She did mention she got paid more in her Bellator fight than any of her boxing fights or something to that effect, which means women boxing payouts must be really low. Bellator also seems to have weird pay structures where they have signing bonuses and contract provisions which could have possibly increased her pay.

She is a newcomer to MMA so I don't think they would break the bank for her, I had never heard of her prior to her signing with Bellator. I will say she comes across as a likable person with the heavy accent based on her post-fight in her 1st fight and hearing her on the Luke Thomas show.

When I watched Ana Julaton's last fight and she didn't look good imo, i'd be surprised if she beats Heather Hardy.

So the number 2 promotion pays a lot less than the number 1? Color me shocked.
I think you are looking at it too simplistically. I think that if they feel she is popular enough or has enough potential to become a star they should have a bigger monetary investment in her. I hate to keep comparing Bellators actions to the UFC but they are both the biggest competing MMA Promotions so its bound to happen.

The UFC had a similar situation with PVZ and Sage. They are not the best but they became popular relatively fast. Paige's 3rd fight and Sages 2nd or 3rd fight they were both making 40k/40k a fight or two later Sage's contract bumped up to 60k/60k. I am not saying Bellator has to match the 40k/40k but they should at least up Heathers contract to 20k/20k as an investment in her potential stardom. This is also not a Bellator does not have much money issue. They have all the money in the world to throw at former UFC talent(who were never draws) but they don't invest in their homegrown talent. This is why I can't think of one homegrown Bellator fighter that became a star.

They keep making the same mistake and not noticing it. Well this is just my opinion on how Bellator could Invest in their homegrown talent a little more instead of just setting them up for photoshoots and interviews. Heather might not be the best fighter but she does have that it factor. It would be a shame for Bellator to not capitalize on it. Like PVZ might not be the best fighter but she headlines a Fox card that had something like 4mil plus viewers. With the right decisions Heather could be Bellators PVZ.

I believe Bellator's pay scale is structured differently than the UFC. I think they tend to give signing bonuses, and pay less per bout agreement.

Got my very first Cyborg nuthugger commenting on my latest video. Exciting times.

She didn’t say this was a weight cut picture, so I’m assuming she’s lost weight to stay at 115? She looks rough.

Some of these chicks should really put on some muscle mass and fight at the next weight class. They look borderline anorexic and I don't like the "message" it may send to young girls. Nadia looked so much better at flyweight.

Someone asked her if she lost weight in the comments and she replied “yes”

She missed weight in her UFC debut then asked for a 125 lb fight against Van Zant. Instead, it seems she atrophied muscle to better make 115 but looks horrible...

Poliana Botelho & Nadia Kassem are both scary thin since no
human that is 5'7" or 5'8" should weigh that little even when they
are not MMA fighters.

What’s more concerning is that that’s not a weigh in picture. So one would assume she would have even more to lose to get to 115. Poliana looks fine out of camp, but she did look bad on the scales making 115. I’d say she’s closer to 5’6 though.

UFC's Priscila Cachoeira undergoes successful knee surgery

UFC flyweight Priscila Cachoeira went under the knife Friday.

“Pedrita” suffered a meniscus and ACL tear in her UFC debut, and had surgery in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to fix the issues, PRVT head coach Gilliard Parana told MMA Fighting.

Surgery was a success and Cachoeira is expected to be cleared to train again in six months, Parana said.

Women's boxing is a joke tbh

It's rebuilding in the US at the moment, but Olympic boxing has helped. Basically it is at where WMMA was in the Gina Carano era. I suspect that next year we will see more matches as the coverage has gotten better in the US markets.

Internationally, the women's divisions are decent. Only reason I don't cover them that often is I don't have the time.

Yeah for sure it's making a come back but right now? It's just kinda pathetic, no TV exposure and the payments are a joke. Boxing fans are too conservative about it and doesn't seem that interested in women's boxing, not as much as WMMA fans are.

Furthermore, being honest, i think the skill gap between women's boxing/men's boxing and MMA/WMMA is very different, the talent pool to WMMA is much bigger due to BJJ girls, judokas, wrestlers etc coming to WMMA while women's boxing still depends A LOT of Olympic boxing. Like you said, women's boxing is like 10 years behind WMMA, at least.
