It was weird. He said that he only meant to bet that GDP growth would be lower than it was the year before, but he offered to pay up anyway, which I declined (I told him that I didn't want to win a bet that he didn't intend to make), though I did not understand his confusion. Then he got mad about something and started insisting that he actually won, and after a few people who are normally on his side weighed in, he again offered to pay up, and I again declined for the same reason. I believe it's one of the reasons @Lead (GOAT WR mod) created the Bet Thread.

Yeah snitchy is a downlow Holocaust "revisionist." He won't admit it, but he's autistic enough that he can't help dropping hints now and then. Russler seems keen to "ask questions" about the Holocaust too. We'll see where that goes.

There is one explanation that makes sense but he denied (and remember that he's not the most honest guy around): He was under the understanding that GDP was a measure of stock rather than flow. He provided more evidence that he was under that misconception when he said that for the growth rate to be negative would require "destruction of capital." It's certainly possible for an intelligent person not to know what GDP is, but I can't fathom how anyone can make a bet about something when they're that clueless about it. It would be like me betting on who is going to win the NFL MVP award next year when I probably can't even name five active players in the league. People here so often make fools of themselves because they're too proud to admit that there are things they don't know.
