As the new season of True Blood premieres tomorrow night, I figured I'd go ahead and put up a new thread to go with the new season. As far as discussion policy, all book discussion should be confined to spoiler tags (though they seem to be leaving the books behind more and more) just to be on the safe side, while discussion of past seasons as well as episodes as they air may be discussed freely under the assumption that everybody is up to speed and knows what they're talking about. If that doesn't include you, then I'd recommend you stay away from this thread until you're all caught up. . .and I do recommend you get caught up, because this is one hell of an excellent series.

For a look at what's coming:

Cheers, bitches.

Ah, my guilty pleasure. Interested in what they do with Billeth.

No reason to feel guilty for liking a show as ingenious as True Blood. The "no one lives forever" line has me thinking either Bill or Eric are going to die, more likely Bill as A) I don't see how there's any coming back from turning into Billith and B) They might be looking towards the finish line for the series and he figures he can sit the next one or two seasons out and take care of the new babies while his wife, Sookie, finishes things out on their show

Whatever happens with Bill(ith), I just hope Eric doesn't die. Not only is he the coolest character in this show, but Alexander Skarsg

I've been looking forward to the resumption of the series. This isn't a criticism, but I think this show might be the tensest show I have ever watched, especially the last few seasons. Watching it I'm in a constant state of agitation. The trailer for season six seems to indicate a continuation of this.

I also hope they keep Eric around until the end of the series. Him and Lafeyette are probably my favourite characters. If Bill is redeemed and Eric perishes and Sookie subsequently goes back to Bill I will cry out in outrage.

I haven't posted in one of these threads yet, but I went back and read some of the old ones and was surprised by how much hate Tara's character gets, from her personality to her looks. First of all I think she's a total babe, and her emotional instability and irascibility and also her relationship with her mother all make for excellent television in my opinion.

Really enjoyed the season finale. Looking forward to this season. Eric telling Sookie to run and legit being scared for once was sick.

Looking forward to it but that last season sucked. They took all of the storylines over the top and now everyone has powers.

It's still one of the best shows I've ever seen. :)

QFT. The only other show that has ever caused me to feel similar is Hannibal, but even that's not as tense as True Blood simply due to the fact that True Blood is such a hyper-violent show where shit can go haywire in literally seconds.

The writing in True Blood combined with the necessary corollary of the brilliant performances from the actors results in such intricate, measured, calculating dialogue. Conversations in True Blood are often times even more thrilling than outright violence, especially the scenes in seasons 3 and 5 involving Denis O'Hare, who is an exceptional actor and who elevated the already high caliber performances from Skarsg

Just sucks that O'Hare is toast so we don't get any screen time with him, by far my fav part of the show

You don't need to bother with spoiler tags for information regarding the show, blink_man. This thread exists under the assumption that people coming in here to post already know Russell died last year. But yeah, it was a great ending for the character/story, but a shitty loss for the actor, who contributed a great deal of the best moments in the series' history.

When Skarsg

And I'm surprised you have 3 so low, especially behind 4. Was it the Eric/Sookie angle that you liked about 4?

I don't remember all the details right now about the past seasons but my reasoning is that season 2 and 3 were bogged down by repetitive scenes, dragged-out scenes and dull minor storylines for the supporting characters. I thought season 4 started fixing those problems by giving the minor characters more interesting side exploits and ending some of those minor storylines when needed and not stretched it out to the season finale.

In terms of comparing the side stories, 4 may have a slight edge on 3, otherwise they're pretty even, but in terms of comparing the main storylines, 3 so thoroughly trounces 4 that I could never rank 4 above 3 no matter how great any of the side stories may have been (I particularly liked the Lafayette/Jes

Incredible start to the season. If it even maintains this level, I couldn't have asked for better, but all indications have it getting better as the war against vampires heats up. The best thing about this show is its sense of immediacy, how so little time is actually passing and everything is intensely happening right now, and we pick things up from the exact moment we left off last year.

And I love how much they're raising the stakes. Bill doesn't even seem like a reincarnated God, it seems more like demonic possession, and I'm wondering if there's going to be some sort of crazy exorcism in his future. But yeah, crazy seeing him going Super Bill on Eric and Nora as they come flying at him and the shit with the drink, and even, from the trailers, hanging out in the daylight

Really interested, too, to see what the fuck is going to happen with Rutger Hauer, doing the vanishing act with poor Jason, who's still spiraling out of control (and with Newlin's wife coming back, I have a feeling the two of them are going to hook up again in another anti-vampire crusade).

And was anyone else laughing as hard as me when Andy's fairy babies sprouted into walking and talking kids :icon_chee

^Bah, your probably right we'll see a "dumb" exorcism.

Jason vis Warlow is kinda funny, it seems like a weird plot line to bring up though. It relates to last season of course, but they aren't touching very well on the war against humans.

The vamps disappeared a major general, and nothings happened.

^Bah, your probably right we'll see a "dumb" exorcism.

I didn't know how "normal" Bill would turn out to be subsequent to last season's finale, so from that vantage point, them killing him was the only resolution I could see. Based on tonight's episode, with the weird possession angle, now I'm thinking the most likely scenarios are either die with Lilith or exorcize her and go back to regular Bill. And, depending on how it's done, an exorcism could actually be pretty cool. I like that there's now a possibility that Bill survives this, though there's also a possibility, beyond either Eric or someone else killing him or him getting some sort of exorcism, that he does some kind of sacrificial gesture to save Sookie from Warlow.

Jason vis Warlow is kinda funny, it seems like a weird plot line to bring up though.

What's weird about it? It would seem to make perfect sense based on Warlow's connection to the Stackhouse family, though his specific presence there at that moment definitely needs some explaining. And I'm wondering what the deal is with the vampire they keep showing in flashes with the beard and the big hat. Are they one and the same? And there's that brief clip of Warlow in what looks to be the fairy club from last year, which is not exactly a hospitable environment for vampires.

Still too much up in the air for me to actually come down on a good/bad side with that storyline.

they aren't touching very well on the war against humans.

Well, remember, this shit just started. This is the first episode, and while a year has passed since we last dealt with the events of Bon Temps, not that much time has passed in the actual storyworld.

The vamps disappeared a major general, and nothings happened.

Again, you're talking about something, in the storyworld, that literally just happened.

I can't get over the horrible effects of fire within the first few minutes of the episode arghhh. The threesome was awesome though, both the chicks are smoking hot. Warlow seems like an interesting and cunning character, looking forward to his role in the season.
