Why would it take 9 rounds for it to affect him? And it's not like the sweating stopped, the grease would've still been there so why didn't it continue to affect him after? It's a bullshit excuse.
Exactly. I like Amanda Serrano but she's just throwing him a life raft here.
Right. It's just a bullshit excuse. His own hair stylist just shot it down lol. One of Roach's punches hit him in the eye and he took a knee after a delayed reaction. That's a knockdown. And another thing: why wasn't he complaining to his corner between rounds? We should've heard him panicking 'fuck, I can't see, my eyes are burning!' if what Amanda said is true about it burning her eyes so bad she had to cancel a fight.
Judges aren't allowed to do that. A judge can't decide take a point away or decide what's a slip or KD.i'm not even sure if the knee was the refs fault, sure he made a mistake, but why arent the judges scoring it regardless as he started counting?
The judges didn't score it as a knockdown because it was only initially treated as such. Moments later the ref stopped counting and voided it altogether. There was also no point taken from Tank for receiving outside assistance from his corner during the fight. The ref let him off scot-free hence the controversy.i'm not even sure if the knee was the refs fault, sure he made a mistake, but why arent the judges scoring it regardless as he started counting?
I forgot all about that heavy costume excuse. How ridiculous that was, it was honestly hilarious. On the heavies it's a meme that Brazilian MMA fighters are constantly coming up with ridiculous excuses, but in reality the undisputed kings of it are American boxers.
'Hair grease from 3 days ago' will take its place just below 'heavy costume' on the excuses podium.

If that had been Roach taking the knee and turning his back Ref would have ruled it a TKO
If Roaches corner got on the apron and tended to him in any kind of way without the referee calling them up, he would have been disqualified. The only real issue was the ref not knowing what was going on when Tank took the knee.
It’s clear as day to me that Davis was just frustrated. He was having a melt down. Roach wasn’t reacting to his shots in the way that people are supposed to. Roach wasn’t intimidated and he wasn’t letting the talk and Tank’s dirty tactics get to him. A lot of Tank’s good opponents are so weight drained that once he decides to turn it on after tiring them out, they typically lose focus and fold.Right. It's just a bullshit excuse. No, it’s not the same. Tank wasn’t throwing any punches. If you swap the fighters and their performances, I guarantee you they would have given Tank a landslide decision. Forget the knockdown, they would have given him every single round guaranteed.Tank underperformed.
You know boxing fans man.
Every close fight that goes to the other guy is a "robbery."
So, I agree with you in terms of the scoring.we can get that out of the way
But I would just asterisk that the ref blown call is not some insignificant or even understandable mistake. That was just a blatant disregard of the rules, a choice to not enforce a rule we all know on a thing we all saw, and it favored the big name guy, shocker. And if that was handled correctly (all else remaining the same) the outcome would not be a draw.
So, all thing considered, I think people have a right to be upset, and I agree that it is misplaced to claim robbery via judging, but I guess I think it is reasonable to perhaps claim "robbery" via ref favorable treatment, or at least to assert that the ref changed the outcome of the fight with a highly questionable choice.
The funny thing about that is, there’s zero evidence of Wilder ever saying it— no video, nothing. A reporter wrote an article immediately after the fight of having heard Wilder say it while talking to him back stage (after being concussed). Wilder did not put that statement out to the press. Fans just ran with it because for years they had been looking for a legitimate reason to hate the guy. Apparently Americans thought a Brit being recovering crack addict was more relatable than one of their own starting boxing at eighteen to support their disabled daughter, winning bronze at the Olympics and becoming a world champion.I forgot all about that heavy costume excuse. No doubt. Tank looked very frustrated because this kid was not only taking his vaunted power he was beating him at his own game and countering the counterpuncher. All Roach had to do from there was hold his ground, put his stick on him, and catch & shoot when Tank overextended. He arguably won every round of the second half doing this and occasionally ripping him with a combo. It’s clear as day to me that Davis was just frustrated. He was having a melt down. It was a twitter post with thousands of likes in which I breezed through replies and no one was doubting it. Seemed legit.I've seen people spamming this.
What is the source?
The actual NYSAC rules simply state that if the fighter falls to the ground, they should start the count.
