Prices of PS5 consoles going up in the US starting from tomorrow

Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we've made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.

The updated recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. are as follows:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

This has been one of if not the craziest console generations ever. To think that the cheapest time to get the console was day 1 is crazy.
I think this is the result of those stupid tariffs. Companies will only eat the costs for so long. American companies have actually held out pretty long so far because they’re afraid of a backlash but I imagine it’s only a matter of time until they also increase prices. Everything will go up soon and games will be the least of our worries. Just glad I have some income to spend on a hobby like this.

Couldn't agree more I feel very fortunate right now. I think this is the second price increase though right? Didn't they increase prices before the tariffs even happened?

Looked it up and it seems they did everywhere but the US in the last price increase back in 2022.

Yeah I think it's the second one but everyone else got it in April at the same time they decreased the cost of the Disc drive attachment

Off topic but anyone else sick to death of seeing the word “slop”? For the past year it’s been used everywhere online but more so in the gaming community. Go on social media and every three posts one person is using that word to describe a game. I can’t recall a word being overused to this extent.

This and "cooked" are getting on my nerves. I used to think cooked wasn't so bad but now it's all over the place.

A nice surprise yesterday, the original Resident Evil 2 and 3 both launched on PS5. If you own the PS3 versions they’re free so I didn’t have to pay anything and they’re also available on PS+ Premium.

I was hoping they had some upgrades and they definitely do. Improved resolution on character models and textures, save states, rewind ability, new graphic options.

Immediately booted up and went through a quick Leon run during my lunch, it was awesome.

Super happy to see these ports.

No trophies sucks but seems to be the norm with Capcom classics on the service

Wow The Rogue Prince of Persia is available now for free for PS Plus subscribers! Just shadow dropped today.

Grabbing! Thanks.

SIE are no longer Co-Owners of EVO, they've sold their shares to NODWIN and will return to being a sponsor at EVO events moving forwards

US independent studio Giant Squid says launching day one on Plus funded development of arthouse indie Sword of the Sea, which is a high-speed snowboarder, skater, surfer movement-type game:

Sword of the Sea director Matt Nava says PlayStation basically saved their studio!

“We’re doing okay somehow. It has been rocky for sure and there’s definitely been moments where we’re like ‘are we gonna make it?’

But we’ve had some really fantastic partners over at PlayStation Indies program who believed in this project from the very beginning and when times got tough they came in and they saved us, basically.”

Finally had some time to play today and I’m glad Sony helped them out. Game is really relaxing and fun. Hearing it’s only a few hours long but I’m okay with that. Going to try and finish this by Saturday night so I can get to Shinobi on Tuesday

Did you ever play Journey? It’s like an evolution of that. Calming play. Will give a try myself too after Diablo but Shinobi drops in 8 days! Pepper your angus.

October alone is Yotei, BF6, and Gaiden 4.

Really it's not even surprising anymore. It's just becoming the norm. I haven't bought and played so many new games in a year before ever. I'm typically ok with waiting and working on the backlog but the games this year have just been way to good. Even in my backlog I still have a ton of amazing games ready to go. Remnant 2 has been calling me lately but I'm trying to hold off for now.

R2 is mega fun. There are three DLC but I recommend only Awakened King.
