Keep in mind the message Saku was intentionally sending here. The Gracies asked for these concessions on the rules, and Saku decided to not only agree to them but to use them to beat Royce into a humiliating surrender. Epic, legendary stuff.

yeah it was sakus to lose either way..hes the better stand up fighter and the grappling was a wash.

I remember watching this UFC tournament at the the time and thinking "How the hell did that little dude come back and beat Conan??!!" Even after the early stoppage by BJM, Saku was able to keep his composure for the comeback win.

Fast forward just a few years, and he beats Royce Gracie at his own game in their epic Pride battle. War Saku!! He was a true, legendary MMA original.

Saku is the reason I became addicted to MMA.

Thanks @Summoning for telling me about this. Who wouldn't want to receive the latest Saku content? I just subscribed.

Here is Sakuraba in a UFC Tournament Final back in 1997

Even if you don't speak Japanese, Saku makes his teachings very easy to learn. In this video, he uses a colored marker to show the points of attack for a Face Crank.

Great technique for when your opponent initially defends the Rear Naked Choke.
