you do it that way when you have the arm already secured and are going for the finish. if uke still has his arms gripped then yes he can roll. but if you have the arm then rolling won't save him. it's a faster entry and can be tighter than putting both legs over.

Ya, the randori between brown belts and black belts can get brutal, especially if they're both active competitors.

I've noticed that it differs between people though. Black belts doing randori with below-brown belt folks range from actively trying to teach you how to deal with certain situations/doing nothing but defending/Going half-speed and just catching your mistakes and punishing you/going full-bore and demolishing your ass because they can do it with impunity.

I've only gone once against a black belt who did the last one. The experience left me limping for days and with a genuine fear of getting thrown for some time. If those are the kinds of people you do randori with on a daily basis, then massive kudos. I don't think my body can handle it after a while.

I think you hit the nail on the head re. Randori.

I rarely go 100% unless I'm challenged against good guys, the rest of the time I stay light and try and hit throws perfectly.

The only time I punish people is if I have a lineup/shark tank or if I get told to up the tempo on people.

A lot of guys at my main club are guys with families who don't compete and have been brown belts for years though so I don't get to go extremely light all the time and have to work a bit.
 
Came up with a way to do the full reap for o soto/harai goshi with therabands. It was a random thought at work. I haven't tested it yet.

With an extra long length of band, either jam the loop ends, or tie them into a sturdy knot in a door anchor, down around ankle level. Reap.
 
I use the adidas Lateral Speed Resistor. It has two Velcro cuffs for each foot and an elastic attached to them.
 
Well, I literally just bought a lateral resistance band. I didn't get the exact brand you mentioned, but the one I got has good reviews.

Onq: you mentioned that Bulgaria has the best sambo. Do you know much about the judo / sambo scene in Serbia? I'm originally from Bor, Serbia which is close to the border. Would be wild to think I ended up in a "traditional slavic sport" all the way on the other side of the globe
 
The rookie club I train and help at bought a crash pad (their mats were very stiff) recently and I had a blast throwing the line of 17 people.

Unfortunately next week will be my last with them, I love helping the club get off the ground and teaching but I can't afford three tuitions (there, my primary kick my ass club, and my son's judo at the getting you ready to kick ass club, aka my primary clubs kids program)

Serbia has good sambo players.
